Why is it when I search floatplane on Duck Duck Go, it is no where to be found. But when I search on on google It is the first result?

Try for yourself, maybe I'm the only one. https://ddg.gg/floatplane

I am searching from Australia, maybe that could have an effect, but I've never experienced this before.

This actually shocked me. ask actually found floatplane, unlike bing, duckduckgo and yahoo:

Google gives you results based on your interests.  If they know you're a techie, whenever you enter a query they'll look for more tech-related results and show those first.

Duckduckgo doesn't do any of that personalizing, so the results you get there are based purely on how many hits that site gets.

Due to the existence of actual floatplanes, Floatplane the video platform simply isn't big enough to rank anywhere near the top 1000 results for that particular search term.  That's what you get when you name your service after an existing vehicle instead of coming up with an original name for it.

yes but i was thinking because the website is floatplane.com not something weird it would come up.

If you open a private window and search it on google it still is the first result. So it's something other than based on your interests

DDG is great for privacy, but awful if you want to find what you're actually looking for.

I doubt this is an issue for them. Anyone looking to sign up would just enter the address, not the name.

Private mode doesn't stop Google from recognizing you by other means, such as your IP address. Google results are definitely customized.

I disagree. If you know how to search for stuff correctly I've found it easier than google since you don't have to sort through the ads.

Because duck duck go just has a simple database for searching, if you know how to manupulate the database then it is fine for searching. You can do the same with google but a bit differently, you get better results with the google database if you ask google a question, while DDG you search for the more technical terms associated with what you want.

Example with google you would search: How do you fix this weird issue i'm having with this thing
Example with DDG you would search: Issue with thing that is doing this.

Also I've found DDG has alot more useful tools for someone who is required to do alot of technical researching and wants to get the information quickly.

Floatplane itself is nowhere to be found but a lot of results are about floatplane on other websites like this forum.

Also for the people that talk about location, in DDG you can choose your own location, or just stick to global results and they don't even appear at all in a global search so location is not the issue here.

Even the website from LMG appears when i search for floatplane! Like, dafuq? Whoever managed to do the SEO for LMG should work their magic with floatplane.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

HOLY SH*T

I didn't know that you could change your location

You can also change a bunch of other stuff, why did I never look in the settings.

This makes me love DDG even more

I like using google maps instead of bing maps and it changed the default map, and it still uses the dark theme along with it.

and I was getting non-australian results

1000 thanks to you good sir
