So, my friend intends to buy a budget PC, for his cousin. When I looked at it, I started to feel suspicious about the power supply, I've never seen this unit before, not in where I live atleast.

It was the cooler master MWE White 450 V2. I've seen the normal MWE series, it was mediocre. But from what I've seen so far the differences are the cables. They're black. What do you think?

The MWE Bronze is a budget unit. The MWE Gold is a pretty good quality one

The build itself is meant to be budget. My apologies for not telling you that.

Here's the build if you need it

-i3 9100F

-B360m HDV

-GTX 1050ti

-1Tb HDD, and a s55 240gb

-MWE White 450 V2

-Patriot Viper Elite 2x4gb

I've not heard of an unrated MWE. Maybe @LukeSavenijecan help

with white he means the 80+ version here

the mwe 80+ is pretty underwhelming, it's not something i'd use here

i recommend to swap it

I'm pretty sure he means what he said, because there literally is a "Cooler Master MWE White 450 V2", exactly like he said.

https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/power-supplies/mwe-series/mwe-450-white-230v-v2/

He also explicitly specified he doesn't mean the original MWE 80+ when he said "I've seen the normal MWE series".

Yes, I would say there's a huge difference.

i'm aware

but is the v2 that much better than the v1?

So, should I still swap his power supply?

I mean, it's still got the less efficient standard 80+ certification, similar like the first one.

It is rated for a 80+ Standard but usually looking at what we buy i think it is kind of mix situation though. It might be better to upgrade it to 80+ Gold standard but looking at the old MWE version and the current MWE there is a huge difference and looks like MWE White 450 V2  can be used looking at the PC components.

You could get much better performance with an rx 570, you can find It for even less

MWE White V2 uses much, much better technology than normal MWE 80+ Standard, but it wasn't tested or reviewed, so its actual performance and quality is unknown. You can swap it for a known good PSU, or continue using it as a blind choice without knowing if it provides clean power or if its protections work properly.

Is this a new unit?

It would be helpful to know the whole build, depending on the components the PSU will power up we can make educated guesses how far you can take your chances with it.

Sorry you mentioned later, but here's the heads up that is info that should be at the OP.

I'd say you're okay to use the PSU.

Yes, it's very new. You can read a discussion when it was released here: http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?16714-Cooler-Master-MWE-V2-and-MWE-Bronze-V2-LLC-SR-DC-DC

It's made with very advanced technology for such a low price and performs quite alright in Cybenetics tests.

Alright? But what about that 80+ standard efficiency rating, is that a bad thing?

Just means that it's less energy efficient.

You can view the efficiency test here, looks like it meets 80+ bronze at 115v
