I used a USB Sound card and plugged both into that.

USB device shows up instantly, no driver, everything works as expected.

EDIT - All ranges of products like this exist.... 100s of examples over the years.
Some good, Many Bad, Research if your worried about quality.
I bought a cheap unit, works great, amplified USB sound.

You can't say that for all of them... just yours.

Mine works well without any noise.
Was just an example of a solution is all..

I don't have it, I don't save links for everything I buy.

Do a Google Search around,"USB SOUND CARD".. these are EASY to source links for.
Chinese brands exists and no-names,.. but there are so many legit options either way with many designs.

If "Headset" doesn't work, than adapter is fucked, assuming that everything else works. Try it on your phone. If that works, then it's an issue on laptop side. Go and buy external USB sound card for ten bucks or whatever...

Might be the port can only do a certain task. The picture you sent also clarifies that the jack is used to take only headphones audio so the splitter isn't going to work, Better use a sound card for that.
