Kodi receiving double key presses from IR remote

I've installed LibreElec on my OrangePi PC+ and set up lirc to use it's built in IR receiver but I'm having a problem with kodi LIRC receiving two events when I press a key once. I tried to use the suppress_repeat function on my remote config file but nothing happens.
