Why can't he RMA? Did he purchase it second hand?

Why haven't you taped it already? Not god if it makes contact with the chassi or other components?聽

If it doesn't make contact with something it shouldn't shut down on him, even with the cable as is, there might be more damage to the unit if there have been a short with that damaged cable...

Ok, so he buys a new product, receives it with a damaged cable out of the box and the say "-No, we don't take a return as the product is damaged on delivery"? That is some serious bullshit they are pulling there... What does your consumer laws in Hungary say about this? A defective product (on delivery) should always be a return for a new unit, no questions asked. Even with a strange defect like with that cable.聽

If it really is no go with the RMA/refund, put some heat-shrink聽on the damaged lead to seal it properly.聽聽

:S He contacted Cooler Master and they said they won't RMA it because it's physical damage? Or something else?聽

What about the store he bought it from? Can it be returned there?

Look at that scratch that even goes over the warranty-sticker....聽

There have been some serious mistreatment of that PSU... Doubt that it could have left the manufacturer like that... plus with that cable.

It isn't a "opened box" he have bought? A return from a previous customer that have gone out again without the store have verified the product that was returned and went out for sale again?

With that scratch he is shit out of luck -聽Even says so on the side of the unit, "As sealed stick was removed, lost or damaged, it shall be out of warranty validity"聽

Did they use google translate on that sentence?聽聽?

The cable? Yes... heat-shrink over the damaged part and it is "as good as new".

But as you you describe that the PSU randomly shuts off there are guaranteed more damage to it than just the cable. It look like the cable has been damaged by heat and/or pressure, maybe damaged by a warm heatsink or got stuck between a cooler聽and CPU when mounting and then someone have powered on the system. The warped wires in one of the damaged part indicates that it has been squashed/mashed between/against something besides what most likely looks like damage by heat. A cut with a knife or similar should leave much cleaner edges...

I would be very reluctant to use that PSU at all. If it has shorted who knows if your other components have survived that or there can be damage to them as well because you even used that clearly faulty PSU to begin with. If I bought a new PSU and got it as you show in the pictures, I would never dare to even plug it in to an outlet... even less to my new computer parts.

I assembled his computer and now he is using it with my PSU, thank God the other parts survived the shipping. He will get a new one tomorrow. The聽funny thing is, that we haven't caused the damage and it was sealed.

THX for the answers.
