Audio Boost 4 on MSI MB or DAC-X6?

Which is better? Also, does the onboard soundcard from my Carbon Pro work with HDMI audio?

What will you be using it for?

Want physical volume control, extra connectivity, or higher output power? Use the X6.

Want (strictly speaking) higher audio quality, provided you aren't using low impedance (≤32Ω) headphones at high output levels? Use the motherboard.

 

In most cases, the motherboard is probably better.

 

HDMI audio is strictly digital and will use whatever audio solution is integrated into your HDMI device, not your onboard sound.
