No post, DRAM LED red / CPU LED red

Build a PC yourself they said, it will be easy the said... it actually was and it worked just fine, though only for 2 days.

Then it stopped working and I got a red CPU LED on a x570 MEG ACE. It happened right after I installed some MSI program and after the usual troubleshooting (no spare parts to try stuff though), I was certain it was the board. So I got a new one, but apparently it wasn't the board.

Now my current setup looks like this:

 

x570 Aorus Master (before x570 MEG ACE)

ryzen 3700x

2x 16gb crucial ballistix sport lt 3200mhz BLS2K16G4D32AESB

rtx 2070 super rog strix oc

nh-d15 (overkill, I know, but plan to upgrade cpu at some point anyway)

corsair HX850

 

Now with the motherboard changed to the aorus master, I get a few seconds red DRAM LED with a code 15 and then it goes to a red CPU LED and a code 07 for a few seconds more. Then it reboots by itself.

So the MEG ACE was probably working just fine, only difference is that the aorus master reboots itself.

 

I triple checked every connection and they are fine. The system worked before, too.

I tried single stick of ram in different slots. Nothing.

I updated BIOS to the latest version. Nothing.

I cleared CMOS. A lot. Nothing.

Only things connected are CPU + power, mainboard power, GPU to power and monitor (so I can actually see stuff), RAM, CPU Fan.

 

 

So what could it be? Broken CPU or RAM? Am I missing something?

Suggest, taking a close look at the manual for the codes.

Post code 15 is a normal boot code, not error.

Post code 07 isn't on the list from Gigabyte Aorus master. It is on the MSI MEG board though.

 

Are you sure its not a D7?

This just means you have a problem with peripherals. Try moving them to different USB ports, or plugging something else in, or anything at all for that matter.

Just to be sure, what does a D look like on those debug numbers?

Wouldn't it look just like a 0, since there are only those 7 strips a character can be made of?

Considering that the lowest number the POST codes start from is 10 on this board (as per the manual anyway).

 

I'd say it more likely to be a D7 then and 07.

 

This usually means something is up with your peripherals. What do you have connected if any at all? and what ports?

Try moving them around different ports, or use a different set.

Currently I have a mouse, keyboard and screen to GPU connected.

Everything else is pulled out.

I also tried without mouse, keyboard and screen. Nothing.

 

What exactly are console input devices? I am using the same keyboard for this pc, so it should work.

Move the USBs to different slots. Try again. Not having anything plugged in will give this error code.

If you have a spare Keyb+mo, try those instead.

Also worth mentioning check to see if monitor is plugged into GPU IO not mobo IO.

Now I tried 2 different keyboards and mice in different USB slots.

The HDMI cable is connected to the GPU and to the screen.

Still nothing.

 

Also I think a D would look a tiny bit different than a 0. It really does look like a 0, which shouldn't even happen with a gigabyte board.

Only last thing I would suggest you try is pull CMOS battery out to clear, replace and reboot.

 

Not going to lie, but I am out of ideas. Maybe someone else has some suggestions?

I cleared CMOS a lot. Doesn't help.

Looks like I will have to send back both CPU and RAM...

Alright last ditch attempt.

Complete disassembly.

Rebuild outside of the case. on a test bench or on top of the mobo box.

Ensure all connectors are Gucci.

Try booting with GPU in a different PCIe slot.

Try booting with 1 stick of memory.

 

If that does not do it, RMA the lot for the least amount of headache, although getting an RMA to begin with annoying enough.

So I breadboarded the whole thing, like you suggested. Tried all kinds of different variations of RAM, peripherals and GPU in different slots. Everything looks fine, but it just doesn't work.

Still the same error.

 

Guess I will send the CPU back for now, since it always stops at CPU LED red before it reboots by itself.

 

Picture is what it looks like. A 07 or maybe D7 and the CPU LED is red for a short moment, then the DRAM LED is red. I didn't screw on the fan for the cpu, but it doesn't change anything if I do or not. Also put the GPU in a different slot.

I probably won't send it back before Monday, so any other ideas before then?

Any updates? Were you able to find a resolution to this issue? I’m currently in the exact same boat.
