Hi all. So I know this pretty simple since I know its possible but  what I would like to know is whether it will be worth it to do so in terms of performance? Also what would this increase in performance mean in games? You're more than welcome to share links so I can also make an informed decision by myself.

What are the rest of your system specs? The system on your profile doesn't quite match up.

Ah my apologies will update them now, my current specs are AMD 2600x, Asus x470 Strix gaming F, coolermaster 120l RGB, 16gb GSkills DRR4 RAM @ 3200mhz and a few SSDs for storage.

Currently running a Sapphire Pulse 5700XT

o0o the 3700X would be a good pairing. That said, what can't you do now that you're hoping this upgrade will solve?

Not that a "just because' upgrade isn't perfectly acceptable.

Agreed.

I would also look at the possibility of upgrading your CPU cooler if you go for the 3700X. Better cooling is appreciable especially with the new Ryzen 3000 chips as you can get better performance if you run the chip cooler - generally speaking.

In some ways you can say I want to do it "just because" but my logic is more sound than that, I'll be able to keep the same setup for longer without having to upgrade, The TDP of the 3700x is much lower than the 2600x so my thermals would be better, and from what I recall Ryzen 3000 series will be the last using the AM4 platform, so this is the highest upgrade path (barring the 3800x and 3900x and possible 3950x) which still won't leave me broke when I decide I do the upgrade, so its a lot more "future proof"

Even though its a 120mm AIO I have two noctua fans in push pull, with the 3700x's lower TDP it should be more than adequate since Im getting like 68c with the 2600x when stress testing the CPU, but if that turns out to not be enough Im more than willing to get something like the Be Quiet! Dark Rock 4 to do the job

Depends on the games you play and the GPU -

Personally I wouldn't as long as my performance was where I was happy with.

You've had access to Ryzen 5 3600-like performance for nearly 2 years now and if you felt you needed it you would have just got the 8700k two years ago instead.

Keep what you got.

Depends what your expecations are my friend.  What settings you use to game ?  Also do you use any HT Apps?  If your looking to improve your gaming fps then no I wouldn't do the upgrade.  If your looking for some increase in speed for apps then you will get that.  Just pretends what your workflow is.

The 3700x is 7nm, so all the heat is compressed into a much smaller room, so the cpu temps will be higher, but because less watts are dissipated by the cooler, the motherboard etc temps would probably be lower.

No, zen3 (ryzen 4000) would be the last.

I think that the 2600x is a perfectly capable cpu, i wouldn't upgrade it now. I would wait next summer for the 4000 series. I only upgraded to ryzen 3000 because my first gen 1700 only hit 3.7ghz, but if i had a 4.1ghz one i wouldn't have upgraded.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

When was this stated? I had no idea but if that is the case I'll save up and wait for Ryzen 4000 series

When ryzen first released.

Support for am4 ends 2021.
