2018 macbook air I need help on connecting 2018 MacBook Air to a external monitor

Hey Guys,

 

I need some help on connecting my Macbook Air to an asus VX328N monitor.

I have the 2018 Macbook Air that only has two USB C ports. My friend reccommended an adapter for me. Here
What im trying to achieve is a higher framerate while gaming which my friend said is achievable as the external monitor has a lower resolution.

I have a few questions. 

1. Is the adapter a good adapter

2 Are there any other things that I need to purchase in order to run this external setup smoothly. This is the adaptor my friend is talking about. Satechi USBC hub.

You can run a lower resolution regardless of the monitor used.

I think that's the dongle/hub @LinusTech carries with him, actually.

It's likely overkill/more than you need if you're just connecting to a monitor, but it will give you options for other stuff. 

 

I can't comment on the higher framerate idea etc..out of my knowedlgebase.

If the monitor is HDMI.

 

But you can run lower resolution on the internal display without buying anything, if thats the only goal.

I'm not sure about the Lower res=higher frame rate idea, to be honest. Is it a performance issue you're having? have you tried lowering the details of the game?

Lower resolution always equals higher performance.

 

HOWEVER...

 

If you have a 4k (3840x2160) screen on your laptop, you can change the resolution the computer renders at to 1080p (1920x1080).  The computer/LCD just upscales the 1080p image to 4k and you still get the 4x performance boost from rendering 1/4 the pixels.

 

The same can be done if you have a 1080p screen, you just drop down to 720p (1280x720).
