Why I have very low FPS with new very powerful PC?

Go to solution Solved by Hukkeli,

Problem fixed with the BIOS update.

Now I got 3,59 GHz and it´s now working with around 3,8-4! :)

Hi!

I have built new computer about a month ago with these specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (8core, 16 thread, 4,4Ghz, 36,Ghz base)

Geforce RTX 2080 Ti (ROG Strix OC 11GB GDDR6)

X570 Aorus Elite (Socket AM4)

Corsair 16GB (2x8gb)  DDR4 3200MHz

Corsair RM750 (80 PLUS Gold)

SSD 970 EVO Plus 1 TB

Monitor is 144hz 1440p

I thought I have ervery component in line but playing games I got very low FPS. I started first playing exam. World of Tanks which gave my 30-40 fps for the best. (Got WoT own FPS meter and MSi afterburner)

I have upgraded the all drivers I got. I also started to think that graphic card wont get enough power chose FPS were so low. I have connected two seperate 8-pin cables from the power unit  but that wont help either.

What I can do to get more FPS chose the rig got some "raw phooower"?

Has it been giving you low FPS on other games? Maybe more graphic demanding games? Have you done anything in your BIOS recently?

@Hukkeli...

something is definitely wrong there. That setup should easily achieve over 100fps.

are all your drivers up to date? Are you using hdmi or DP?

the pc wouldn't even work if the display cable was connected to the motherboard

Correct! That’s due to 3700x having no iGPU. @TomvanWijnen

Hi!

Thanks for quik answers.

For testing that FPS, Wolfenstein Youngblood is now loading so I might get try that today and got my FPS count in that.

I am now using HDMI cable which come with the monitor. And the HDMI is connected to the Graphic card port.  There is two HDMI, two DP and one USB 3.1 ports.

There are plenty of 2080 ti users here so run a bench like TimeSpy and see if your graphic score is low or high.

Hi.

Tried now one game World of tanks and this is what I got:

08-09-2019, 13:47:26 WorldOfTanks.exe benchmark completed, 1611 frames rendered in 54.078 s
                     Average framerate  :   29.7 FPS
                     Minimum framerate  :    0.0 FPS
                     Maximum framerate  :   51.2 FPS
                     1% low framerate   :    0.0 FPS
                     0.1% low framerate :    0.0 FPS

08-09-2019, 13:49:16 WorldOfTanks.exe benchmark completed, 3778 frames rendered in 101.187 s
                     Average framerate  :   37.3 FPS
                     Minimum framerate  :    0.1 FPS
                     Maximum framerate  :   54.9 FPS
                     1% low framerate   :    0.1 FPS
                     0.1% low framerate :    0.1 FPS

This is bad. I haven´t touched the BIOS lately. Is there any solutions to help in this case?

Hello mate, I am not expert but I do play World of Tanks with an i5-6600k & 1080ti on 3440x1440p and get 120-150 fps, though my monitor is Acer X34P (120 Hz). Your problem in WoT that I could guess is.

  • You are connected via HDMI which could be the limiter, use DP port. For my monitor HDMI could run at max 60 Hz while on DP it could run at 120 Hz.
  • Within WoT setting you can change your fps limits which I doubt you might have accidentally set as low.

Hope this helps...

Yeah I am highly sure it might be either the cable or some type of an fps limit if it's not the hardware

Hi!

Here are some new results. The Wolfenstein rolls very nicely, but there is other problem chose I have that kind of "saw lines" going on all the time in white/gray/black colours. So they are noticed best in those colours. I could not find any help on that anywere.

08-09-2019, 22:46:34 Youngblood_x64vk.exe benchmark completed, 1252 frames rendered in 8.703 s
                     Average framerate  :  143.8 FPS
                     Minimum framerate  :  142.4 FPS
                     Maximum framerate  :  145.3 FPS
                     1% low framerate   :  104.9 FPS
                     0.1% low framerate :   70.9 FPS

I got very nice results in Heaven. I rolled ultra with and without V sync and there were only like 5 FPS difference.

09-09-2019, 10:12:37 heaven.exe benchmark completed, 6793 frames rendered in 106.891 s
                     Average framerate  :   63.5 FPS
                     Minimum framerate  :    0.1 FPS
                     Maximum framerate  :  117.5 FPS
                     1% low framerate   :    0.1 FPS
                     0.1% low framerate :    0.1 FPS

I just trioed this with all ultra and RTX options on. When fighting scenes are on, it is not so playable.

09-09-2019, 17:24:31 Control_DX12.exe benchmark completed, 1958 frames rendered in 89.187 s
                     Average framerate  :   21.9 FPS
                     Minimum framerate  :    0.6 FPS
                     Maximum framerate  :   27.7 FPS
                     1% low framerate   :    0.6 FPS
                     0.1% low framerate :    0.6 FPS

But what I can sum up from this? I have that market most powerful GPU and all my rest components are too at the top. What could be wrong in this?

Displayport cable on the way. But in WoT, where I can ajust my FPS limits?

Let me correct myself, there is screen refresh limiter in WoT.

However if your screen is 144 Hz then it means it can only display upto 144 frames even if your graphics cards is generating more frames.

Some games would let you limit your FPS, for e.g. PUBG Lite has an option to limit FPS.

In addition to this I would suggest you try reinstalling your graphics driver. Do a clean uninstall using DDU utility and then reinstall, this might help.

Hi!

I think I found the solution.

The CPU is working only with 0,8 GHz. I don´t know why?!? But the base speed should be 3,6 GHz and even with max boost 4,4 GHz. (Ryzen 7 3700X)

I dont know how it took so much to figure this out... Hole week just thinking the solution.

But have you any tips how I can change that to 3,6 GHz? I just cheked that in BIOS (802,62 MHz, Temp 34.0  C)

I think this was THE BOTTLENECK!
