I'm thinking of upgrading from a GTX 1070 but no idea what direction I should go with to play on ultra/max settings in 1440p, 27 inch monitor.

At first I was just going to YOLO it and buy a RTX 2080 Ti, but the more I thought about, the price isn't justifiable for myself. $2000 AUD ($1400 US)

Then I started looking at the 2080 Super for $1300 AUD ($800 US)

BUT then I started looking at a 2070 Super which I can get for $800 AUD ($550 US)

I'm leaning towards a 2070 Super as I don't feel the 2080 Super is worth $250 US more for what 10-15% performance?

The 2070 Super alone is like 30-40% better then my current GTX 1070. If I sell me GTX 1070 for $200-250 US then my change over would only be $300 US for a brand new card "with RTX' warranty and better performance. The other thing is, because this is first gen ray tracing I'd assume the next gen would make noticeable advancements and hopefully AMD/Intel have something to offer making it a somewhat competitive market (hopefully) as well as more games actually utilising it. So then maybe that is the time to go xx80 Ti model...

Lastly it is also kind of possible to get a RTX 2080 for the same price as a RTX 2070 Super, so in this case I don't know which to pick.

Does a 2070 Super make sense as an upgrade?

The 1070 is still a good card for 1440 so not sure why you really want to upgrade considering the price differences.

I currently run a gtx 1080 on ultra settings at 1440p so really anything above that is satisfactory, so you should consider if you plan on upgrading your display as well, because getting an RTX 2080 just for 1440p gaming is a little overkill imo. Maybe just stick with an RTX 2070 or RTX 2070 super if you are hell-bent on upgrading the gpu now, otherwise I would hold out until you are in a position to upgrade the display too, and by then the next gen will be out and you can splurge on that or the RTX 2080 will be a little cheaper adn just as effective. Hope this helps!

I'd just get the 2080/2070 Super. There's no point in considering advances on the next gen cards. If you do that, you'll never get something; there will always be something better on the horizon. That's just how tech works.  Do you have a 144hz monitor or are you aiming for 60?

It's not a waste if he's trying to get into the 100fps plus range. The 2080 will struggle with that.

I have a 144hz gsync monitor. So would like to be towards that mark rather then the 60fps mark.

To 4k? I'm not super interested in 4k at the moment.
