Earlier today a Telus employee came to my house trying to sell me on the new telus fiber internet. They offered to pay the remainder of my Shaw contract and get me on an internet plan that is $50 less than my current plan....

Here is the part I question. I am currently using Shaw 150 that was upgraded to 300. The telus employee stated that their fiber 75 plan is faster than my Shaw 300 plan. I don't understand how fiber at 75 mbps is faster that cable 300 mbps. Apparently I only get 10% of what I am paying for with Shaw, but Speedtest online tests have me consistently around 300 even during peak hours 5pm-9pm. When asked about their speeds increasing they didn't say anything about it and that they can only offer internet 75.

As per my usage. Both my wife and I game and stream our TV shows. The reason we went with Shaw 150 in the first place was due to data caps being hit.

Thank you for the help.

You know that upload speed is not the same as download speed, right......................................

300 is only download speed.

Shaw's upload speed is complete crap.

btw you can pay like an extra $15 a month or whatever to get unlimited data with telus.

The Telus employee lied to you to try to get a sale, plain and simple. While I'd prefer not to reveal details about my work, I'll just say I have friends working for Bell, Telus, and Shaw, all of whom can confirm that the companies they contract with for door-to-door sales don't always use the best tactics or follow ethical practices to acquire new customers.

At the end of the day, I'll always vouch for whatever service or product works best for each individual consumer, and thus I too prefer Shaw over Telus because of the unlimited data. (Although we had Internet 150 on "limited" data before, but were never charged for going over.) That being said, if you need the faster upload, FTTH is a better solution now, at least until DOCSIS 3.1/4.0 rolls out.

Thank you Kirashi. I'm not concerned about upload speed since all I do is game and use streaming services. I figured that they where lying about the speed being "faster" even though I am currently getting more than what they are offering.
