Will any screen be compaitable with my laptop model if the HP spare part no. matches?

Hi,

Getting a bit stressed out, I thought this would be more simple than it is.

My laptop model no. HP Elitebook 8460p and manufacturer no. LG744ET

Here's the situation, I want to replace my laptop screen, but I cannot check the part no. behind the screen because a screw is stuck, the plan is that when the screen arrives I'm going to have to snap it off and only have 3 screws holding the new screen in place which is fine for me, rather than snap the screen off now and leave myself without a computer screen (screen still works, but is faulty), I decided to search the model + manufacturer no. on the HP PartSurfer website, HP is saying that the spare part no. is 653040-001.

The issue I'm having now is on eBay there are multiple listings for 653040-001 screens, one is made by LG Electronics and only costs £20, the title of the listing is: LG ELECTRONICS LP140WD2(TL)(D3) (6091L-1609A, 653040-001) as you can see 653040-001 is in the title and the screen has the exact same specifications, it's a HD+ 1600x900, matte, 40-pin connecter, WXGA++ 14" screen with the exact same brackets... This is what I don't understand, what is the difference between these two listings? Can I buy the cheaper one instead?

I'm not a professional running a shop or anything like that, I just want to replace the screen on my laptop and it work, I don't care if the brands don't match or if it's not 'right' one, all I care about is that the screen works and there isn't display problems.

Thanks for helping.

Also, if the LG screen will work, can I buy this cheaper one instead?

For anyone who finds this thread, I found out that all the screens I listed were compatible.

HP sometimes uses screens manufactured by LG, which is why the LG screen has the HP PartSurfer part no. those screens were actually removed from a HP laptop.

Something I learned was that despite all the brackets, resolution, connector etc. being the same, it's the software that matters, for example if Lenovo produced a screen which appears to be the exact same as a HP screen, it might not work because the software (built in to the hardware, not the OS) on the HP laptop might not be compatible with the Lenovo screen... Think of it as the screen is the same but speaks a different language.

Spot on regarding there being different manufacturers for the same HP Part number used in a given laptop lineup. Sometimes LG can only make 6,000 of the 20,000 required screens in time for production, so HP reached out to Samsung and/or other manufacturers to have them make equivalent panels to the same specifications required for that particular laptop series.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, RTX2060) Mobile: OnePlus 5T | [REDACTED] - 50GB US + CAN Data $34/month
Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 7i (16") 82UF0015US (i7-12700H, 16GB/2TB RAM/SSD, A370M GPU) Tablet: Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 10.1
Camera: Canon M6 Mark II | Canon Rebel T1i (500D) | Canon SX280 | Panasonic TS20D Music: Spotify Premium (CIRCA '08)

Secret money making method that I feel like sharing...

I noticed that HP screens were being sold for £37, but you can buy a cheaper version for £20 made by a different company but has the same part number, so what you can do is make an eBay listing for "(BRAND) (MODEL) replacement screen" and instead send them a screen made by a different manufacturer, just be sure to put in the description "you will recieve a screen which is compatilble with your laptop and will be by any of the following manufacturers etc. etc."

Enjoy being rich :)

Technically you can do this with anything, like for example a replacement screen for the S9, you can make it appear as though it's an offical one but put something in the description which makes it legal.

An example of someone doing this and what gave me the idea:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-Elitebook-8450P-8470P-8470W-8460P-8460W-Folio-9470M-Notebook-Screen-Read-Note/380827830804

But this screen, which is £17 less is the exact same:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LG-ELECTRONICS-LP140WD2-TL-D1-6091L-0881F-653040-001-14-LCD-SCREEN-USED/283558646396

The only difference is, it's not listed as a replacement screen for a certain model laptop (it's not as easy to find, this is how you can make profit).

There's another way that I spotted, many people are selling things like RAM and other components that you can sell for more.

The best one is laptops, buy ones that are cheaper than they should be, and find someone who isn't that knowledgable in computers to buy it for more than it's worth (99% of the population).
