Hi there,

So I've had this laptop for about a year now, and to be fair, I haven't used it a ton or put a ton of hours into fixing it, but I've done my fair share of googling, downloading drivers, testing things, etc. I bought this laptop based on reviews from among others, LTT (I've been watching for years, and had been paying attention to every laptop review for about 6 months before I finally pulled the trigger on this).

On paper, this thing is a beast, 4k, touchscreen, reversible, good hardware spec's and all at an awesome price. The keyboards nice, and the screens pretty awesome as well, has USB C for everything. All good, but from day one, I've struggled with the actual experience on this machine. Everything from spending a day trying to get wifi drivers figured out, dealing with lagging keystrokes in google chrome with upwards of 2 second delays, videos not playing in 60 frames on google chrome, unable to read HEVC videos off my 4k go pro (one of the big reasons i bought a new computer with an 8000 series cpu) and other things from here.

Is this the general consensus on these machines? Am I just missing a bunch of updates or have something configured wrong? I want to like this laptop, but at this point i'm so frustrated with having to battle to get anything to work at a reasonable level that i'm ready to just sell it and fork over the cash for something that will actually work (hopefully a windows book 2 or maybe even a mac at this point?) I'm also wondering how the reviewers were able to unbox these machines and have such a great experience, or is it common for actual performance to be very different from what the reviewers think?

To preface my experience with computers, I built my desktop 4 or 5 years ago and decided rather than building a new one I wanted something mobile to do some light editing and things like that, and the laptop i've been limping along since 2013 even with an SSD is pretty much just good as a plugged in server for a few things. So I wouldn't consider myself a novice with this stuff, but I'm just at my wits end trying to make using this thing an enjoyable experience.

I know this is mostly complaining, but if anyone has any experience getting one of these machines to actually run google chrome and the few other things i mentioned at a reasonable level I'm all ears.

Thanks,

Well I figured it just needed some updates, change a few configurations, etc. Or HP would come up with a patch or something along those lines. Life got busy for about a month after I bought it and I didn't realize how long the list was getting of issues I wasn't getting anywhere with. So of course it went past the 15-30 day return policy before I really started thinking about it. So at this point im stuck with it.
