Turning laptop display into portable monitor

Hi guys,

there are already plenty of topics about this on the forum, but mine is slightly different. I am curious - why does one have to buy a controller board/s and replace all boards that come with display, why not just buy one board that would provide it with signal and power using the original interface that plugs into the motherboard? Sorry if this sounds stupid.

the laptop display uses a proprietary connector to the motherboard almost 100% of the time. it is usually not interchangeable with any other laptop motherboard or display. that being said, the display on modern laptops are mostly all panels manufactured by Samsung or LG or some other OEM manufacturer. You can visit our favorite website aliexpress.com and likely find power and controller boards that you can solder onto the display panel. those display controllers are more likely to have standard interface connectors.

Thank you for your reply. I just wanted to avoid as much work as possible, but it seems that I will have to do as you proposed.
