Generally 1080 screens are 24", give or take 3".  27" is really pushing it imo and I've actually never heard of more than that.  My gut says it's way too big, but in reality the physical size is totally irrelevant, what matters is the angular size (physical size + viewing distance).  Does it take up 50° in your field of vision?  90°?  Even more?  I assume that if you're even considering 32" to begin with, the reason for this is people are forced to sit quite far from the screen due to the layout of the setup, in which case it's probably fine.  If you have the option to sit closer and use a smaller monitor, I'd recommend just doing that instead, you'll save money on the screen and get a higher pixel density which looks better on paper for resale I guess.

Also don't underestimate the value of going to a higher resolution regardless - the extra screen real estate you get from more pixels can be genuinely useful, depending on the task, and if you decide to "spend" some or all of it on scaling above 100% instead, having everything be less chunky and pixelated can be easier on the eyes.

How much are they trying to spend exactly?

You could just grab a bunch of 4k displays for better productivity.

Or grab some ultra-wide 1080p monitors if your budget is lower.

Gross. Absolutely gross.

Personally, 24" is the absolute maximum for 1080p. Anything above that looks pixelated to me, and gives me headaches.

I currently sit ~35inchs from my 42" TV that i use as a monitor. Would i be best looking at a nice 34" 4k ultrawide as an upgrade? Or dual screens?

Work wants some new monitors for everyone in the office, 32 inches of possible.

I have found a 32' 1080p monitor within budget, but am just wondering if its too big for 1080p.

I have used a 27' 1080p for years before upgrading to 1440p and that was fine.

Generally speaking yes. BUT view distance and render resolution make a big difference.

I use a rule of thumb of diagonal screen size x1.2 to x1.4 for Monitor use. Distance being from eye to display.

So 32" x 1.2 = 38.4 = 3.2 feet .

to

32" x 1.4 = 44.8 = 3.7 feet.

You can also use DSR to increase render resolution beyond the native 1080p to increase fidelity and get the most out of the panel as at 1080p rendering most games do not use the full potential of a 1080p display due to various LOD settings baked into the game engine.

^^^ I used a 27" 1080p monitor for a good while at work, didn't get headaches but it's not the best experience. 24" is the max that's reasonable for 1080p if you're reading text a lot. I have a 29" 1080p ultrawide now, same vertical height as a 23" or so screen so the pixel density is fine, while being much wider and thus better for running windows side by side which I do a lot.

Yeah, I too have a 29" 21:9 and I love it. Though I might be swapping it out for a 27" monitor with a high refresh rate. Time will tell.

Just in case the OP thinks that 29" isn't that far off of 32"...the difference is massive.

-snip-

Not to mention 21:9 is 2560 pixels across, whereas 16:9 is only 1920, so 34" is even more stretched than it looks given the size comparision.
