Audio not working unless i run an audio active program while launching my editing software/game

at the moment i am using an open desk build for my computer whilst i wait for a warranty return/refund on a psu and case bundle that blew up on me. so in the mean time I'm using my Xbox one elite controller connected via usb to the usb 3.1 gen1 in the io of the motherboard and it's just recently been bugging out with windows does anyone have any ideas?
