If you determine the issue to be video card related, then call up Sapphire and give them the card's s/n and see if it's eligible for replacement. If it's not eligible for replacement, and your PC can detect the card when running off the iGPU, then try a BIOS flash to make sure it doesn't have a corrupted BIOS. If flashing the BIOS doesn't work, then it's probably a physical defect with the card that you likely won't be able to fix.

So i was playing that new game, control, when my pc suddenly crashed and, trying to fix it, i entered several times to the game to do it but it kept crashing till, in one crash, i couldnt boot up my pc again. So i started trying to reboot but it didnt work. Despite the whole system turned on (even the graphics card with it leds and fans) there was no beep or image, so i unplugged the card and reboot and the pc started up working well through the CPU graphics.

I've been struggling with this problem for 2 days and i think i tried everything excepting reflash the gpu's BIOS.

So, whats the problem? Could you please help me? Everything seems to work fine, even the card but i cant boot up when i plug the pcie cables to it. I even changed the thermal compound of the card but dont know what else to do, please help.

System specifications:

Cpu: Intel I5 4690k

Mb: gigabyte ga h97-gaming 3

Gpu: sapphire r9 280x dual-x

Psu: thermaltake 650W 80 plus bronze

Samsung 850 Evo ssd

My guess is either a bad PSU or a bad video card. Can you try the card in a different computer? Or do you have a different PSU you could throw in?

I dont have any extra psu and i dont have any friends with pc, they use PlayStation. Is there another way to find out if the graphics card is bad?

Does the PCB have indicator lights on it that you could reference with your manufacturer?

If not, the only other way I can think of is trying a different card that requires external power.

Also, have you tried any of the other video out ports on the card?

I thinked of it, but my mb only have 1 pcie x16 port

I mean on the back of the card.

Looks like the card has 2 DVI ports, a HDMI port, and a DP port. Have you tried all of these ports to make sure you don't have a bad video out?

Yeah, i Already tried those but there wasnt any changes. Besides, to get the system to boot up, i need to unplug the pcie cables from the gpu, because if i dont, the system wont startup.

Then the only other option to test if you have a bad video card is to take out the old card and plug in a substitute that also requires a 6/8 pin and see if it boots.

My only option is trying a BIOS flash. Will i be able to do it even with the pcie cables unplugged? Due to that if i plug them the system wont boot.

As long as the card shows up in device manager, then you should be able to flash it.

The card wont show up in the device manager. Could this mean the problem is with the slot? Or its because of the abscense of the pcie cables.

My money is on the absence of power cables. I would either try a different card, or plug the card into a different computer to verify the issue is in fact with the card itself before flashing it.
