Is this USB and MicroSD the same speed?

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

I was about to buy a SanDisk Ultra Fit 256GB 3.1 USB, but then I remembered seeing that MicroSD cards are a lot cheaper, in-fact I found a MicroSD card adapter for £5 and the 256GB MicroSD is £10, whereas the USB is £30, so I could potentially pay half and get the same features, with the added benefit of being able to use the MicroSD in future in a phone or camera if need be.

I ran some tests on the USB stick (I currently have the 64GB version, my friend is having it and is going to pay me for it so I figured I'd upgrade it), the tests came back as 78 MB/s write speed and 28MB/s read speed (although it is advertised as having upto 130MB/s, although they add two asterisks... So you won't realistically get those speeds all the time).

Here is a link to both:

The SDXC is advertised as having 80MB/s write speed and 30MB/s read speed...

Do you think that they will both be equivelant in performance?

Edit: I've just looked up some speed comparison tests, it appears my current 64GB USB is underperforming... Is this right?

I have a 128 GB memory card coupled with a small USB 3.0 adapter and it works great! :) It reads at 88 MB/s and writes at 20 something (24?) MB/s. The only "problem" is that the adapter gets quite hot, but a different, bigger, one does not have this. I'll share links of what I have in a few minutes. :)

The small adapter: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/BQ5yIOhK

SD card (different sizes available too) https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/ojkBG27O

This is the larger adapter that I use, it fits both SD and micro SD, but they don't go entirely inside. https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/ki5CAh1A

You must be looking at the 512 GB version, the 256 GB one is about 40 bucks. The 128 GB one is the best value, though.

Never ever buy storage media from ebay, unless you can absolutely trust the seller. If pricing is fishy, it's probably for a good reason. It's faked.

What ends up happening is that you buy a very expensive 16-32GB drive.

I can vouch for this.

Don't even trust certain shops (like phone case shops) I bought a USB stick which I thought was a 128GB USB and it turned out to be a 8GB USB which had been modified to make it look like a 128GB USB... What happens is once you reach 8GB it starts overwriting your other data.

If you're going to buy one from eBay make sure the seller has thousands of positive reviews and that the USB is reasonably priced, if it seems too good to be true it probably is.

Here's a YouTube video which explains it:
