Desktop Upgrade for Casual Gaming and Productivity

Hey guys,

 

My desktop PC isn't working anymore so I am about to upgrade to a new board, CPU. I got a 27 inch 1440p monitor and a quite old Radeon 270X (which I might upgrade too). What I am looking for is quite decent performance on titles like FIFA or DotA 2. No AAA titles, just some casual gaming for a few hours a week. Furthermore as I work in research it should handle all the office related stuff like browsing the web with a few amount of tabs, Microsoft Office suite and also some light developing and data science related programming with python.

CPU: I dont really care if its Intel or Ryzen thinking off a used Ryzen 5 2nd Gen or i5 7th Gen+. Is there anything thats quite on sale used by now?

Board: got a tower at home that can fit micro atx, everything else depends on the CPU choosing. No special need in I/O as at least USB 3 should be standard I guess...

RAM:  I got an 8 GB stick and plan to upgrade to 16 GB; tips on frequencies and ddr3 vs ddr4 would be appreciated.

 

I thought of a budget of maybe 300-500€.

 

Tips would be highly appreciated.

If you buy new, you can get a 580 for about 30 more

 

Because your budget is smaller, I would try and buy a used gpu, RX 580 or maybe even a 1070 if you can find one at a good price
