So I'm buying a new gaming monitor. Originally I was going with an AOC C24G1 (144hz, 190$) but then for just 40$ more there was an Acer KG251QDBMIIPX with 240hz for 230$. Both have same resolution, acer has a TN screen while AOC has VA, aoc is curved and acer isn't... So is the acer good, is there a catch or should I just got with the aoc? Sadly the acer is not currently in stuck but I'm sure I can get it. Thanks.

240hz is a gimmick:

If you want a better screen try looking at 2560x1440p monitors already since 144hz is the sweetspot for refresh rate.

It's not really a gimmick, there is a difference. Although it's not as noticable as the jump from 60hz to 144hz

but it's still better and I'm willing to pay 40$ more for it as long as there aren't any downsides like display tech etc

It's not better at all, you're getting a downgrade across the board.

Worse color accuracy, worse factory calibration, worse viewing angles, inferior contrast ratio and for what? a higher refresh rate that won't change your perception at all specially when the monitor GTG is inferior to what would be needed to prevent ghosting at 240hz.

If you want a better monitor aim for a higher resolution screen, stick to VA and IPS but preferably VA as these days it's the best of the 3 main LCD technologies due to much reduced backlight bleed, no IPS Glow, deeper blacks and high contrast ratios.

Thanks! I'm not sure on the higher resolution since 1920x1080 looks just fine and higher would cause the fps to decrease, so I'll probably go with the curved AOC.
