About a month ago I built my first rig. It has a 3700x, 5700xt, aorus pro WiFi x570, 16gb trident z 3200, seasonic 650w platinum, and a 1tb WD ssd inside of a Lian li 0-11 with two case fans. I have asked a lot of my friends who have built what ideas they have that the issue could be however nothing we have tried has worked. I have a fair amount of general IT troubleshooting skills. However, nothing has solved the issue.

The issue occurs totally at random. While operating the system in a wide range of activities, I have had freezes where the screen locks and I can do nothing to unfreeze it except hard shutoff using either the psu or the front io power button. One thing that I have noticed is that I cannot see the gpu in bios or in any temp reading applications.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you update your bios to the latest one?

If you load up a Linux USB and run ubuntu do the same issues happen? you can just install steam and benchmark it.

If linux off a USB works fine then you can probably blame windows or your SSD for the issues.

Yes, my bios is on the latest one. I don’t think it is due to stress because it will work for several hours doing strenuous games and have absolutely no issues. Then at complete random it locks up but it also locks up while literally idling on home screen.

Do you have some other storage you can install windows onto to see if it's your SSD?

You could try watching your task manager as well to see what happens when it freezes.

Check your power management settings, and see if it's turning off your SSD after X minutes, it'll be under additional power settings

I do not have a separate storage device other than thumb drives. The power setting has it turn of hard disk after 20 minutes. Which I believe is default.

Then that might be the reason it stutters since it takes a second to turn it back on

set it to 0 minutes and see what happens.

I'm about to build my first rig too. I also bought the 3700x and looking at a tuf 5700xt when it comes out to go with the tuf x570 mb funny as it was a coin toss between the aorus for me too. Great minds must think alike hehe.. I too decided on a 650w ps the rmx corsair with help from people in this forum.

Hope it all works out for you and keep an eye on the above advice incase this happens to me.

That did not fix it. Still random freezes. On task manager gpu goes to 100% and then occasionally when freezing the game will crash and say rendering device lost.

Did you try using a linux USB to see if the problem is windows related?

No but also to be honest I don’t know how I would go about doing that

You just download ubuntu and rufus to make a bootable USB, then install steam once you're in linux, assuming the flash drive is big enough to hold a test game.
