Hi all,

I have just upgraded from an old intel i5 2500K to a new Ryzen 2600.

Since the upgrade I've got a lot of issues with the system crashing (BSOD), only 1 display working and general bad performance / glitching.

I'm assuming the issues are due to old intel and chiset drivers handing around.

Is there any way to remove all the old drivers from the windows install, so I can install the new drivers fresh without having to totallly wipe the windows install?

I dont want to have to re-install all my programs, find and restore all my files etc if i can avoid it.

Thanks,

Unfortunately, newer motherboards have a feature that outright rejects windows installs that are detected to have been from another system to avoid such conflicts. Unfortunately there's also no way to uninstall a lot of your motherboard drivers.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

You can try going into Device Manager and then View and then Show Hidden Devices.  All the greyed out devices you can then delete.  If it's something needed then Windows will re-install it.

Edit:

This may help some or not at all.

That will only make things worse - deleting devices still preserves them in the registry and windows will be constantly looking for them and trying to auto install the drivers causing further issues

I had to just back up my files and transfer them manually. When going from Intel to Ryzen I got one successful boot, tried to instal motherboard bios to connect it to the internet, and then it just blue screened after that. Luckily I had a backup.

I disagree.

I also experienced some glitch when porting amd to amd (fx to ryzen), forcing me to do fresh install.

You can also backup your user folder, fresh install and reinstall all programs.

Then you restore the backup, you will have your programs using the same settings / config.

With this at least you don't have to reconfigure all your apps one by one.

Your opinion has been noted, however, it is wrong. Keep this install and doing a BIOS update carries the risk of breaking the board as a whole.

updating your bios if done properly won't break anything.

Windows doesn't attempt to re-install devices that aren't present in the system.

And I am not advocating using the same Windows install when changing as much hardware as he has done.

Of course that you can remove ghost drivers from your system. I recommend using tool called Ghostbuster. link

Proceed with caution and select only drivers that you're sure are related to old hardware (not ghost drivers that are related to, for example, disconnected webcam).

But first - try to check other settings not related to drivers. Messing with virtual memory settings can made problems on new configuration.

And most important - everyone trying to find problem with system, but what you described seems may be a problem with hardware (BSOD, only 1 display working, bad performance / glitching - it's all 50/50 chances that problem is with drivers or with hardware). Before you even start installing new system (if you choose that option), test your PC with any liveCD/USB (Ubuntu for example). Installing system on hardware that has problems is not a good idea.
