PC for watching movies/steam remote play:Build it or buy used

i'm trying to setup the living room gaming/movie config
my initial plan was using old Pentium D PC and...it was completely dead due to unknown reason

so i was about to build a new PC but at 300$ price point, should i buy used one? normally i see 2nd~3rd gen i5 with GTX 750ti or something like that at that price point in my country
and also, can i go cheaper? drop me some wisdom plz
