Hello, can you guys advise me on what the best laptop would be to get on a budget of £500?

I will need it for programming and learning C++ , as well as moving from uni to home with it. I wouldn't mind being able to do some light gaming, but I have a desktop that can be upgraded for AAA stuff.

I have watched the Linus tech tip videos on new laptops for the school term, and with that advice, I've narrowed down my options. The main take I got from these forums, and from both end of summer Linus tech tip videos was that:

- I should look for a quad core CPU.

- I should go for SSD, not HDD

- 8 Gb of RAM

I would like to ask for help choosing the best bang for my buck!

Other options :

Acer Swift 3 Ryzen 5 https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-swift-3-14-amd-ryzen-5-laptop-256-gb-ssd-silver-10193941-pdt.html?intcmpid=display~HL

Lenovo IdeaPad Ryzen 5

I would be incredibly grateful if people could help me decide from these options ? ?

Thanks for that Bionicle soup image

Acer laptops generally feel pretty good to use, that Swift would be my choice

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Thanks for your reply !

Do you think I should look for the i5 iteration or the Ryzen 5 one ?

Or is there basically no difference?

There really won't be much difference for your use case.
