RTX 2070 Super crashing 15-20 min into games (Resolved)

After purchasing my RTX 2070s everything started off as you'd expect with an upgrade. I installed the card, did a clean uninstall of my old drivers, did a clean install of the newest rev from Nvidia and I though I was good to go... Well, no. My PC booted up just fine and both of my monitors were displaying my desktop as usually. I started a game and 15-20 minutes later I ran into the games crashing right back to the desktop. No errors, nothing in the logs that were helpful and I was hoping the card wasn't a potential RMA candidate.

How to resolve the issue:

  • Download Nvidia display driver rev. 436.02 found here.
  • Uninstall your display drivers you have installed using Display Driver Uninstaller, then restart your computer.
  • Install the display drivers you downloaded and restart your computer again.
  • Test your system in game, you may be good to go at this point, if not continue to the steps below.
  • Backup your computer using the program of your choice, I recommend Acronis.
  • Download and install Windows 10, version 1903 via Windows Update.
  • If Windows Update gives you an error use Windows 10 Update Assistant.
  • That should do it, Enjoy!
