There is no 1080p resolution even though my graphics card supports it

Xander CaGe

Even though my graphics card supports 1080p display my monitor wont allow it.

My PC is HP Pavilion Core i7 8th generation with Intel UHD 620 and NVIDIA 940MX with 4GB graphics and a total VRAM of 8GB.

Is there any way to increase the resolution?

Is the monitor capable of 1080p?

Do you have the latest drivers for the graphics?

Are you using VGA, DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort?

Do you know the model of your monitor? If yes then look it up on google.

The resolution should be stated on the product page. Search by model.

Check maybe the back there might be a small sticker or some type of a name.

Generic PnP Monitor, this is what it says in device manager and it was last updated in 2006.

Look at the back of the physical monitor, genius.

What is the model of your HP laptop then?

Not ALL laptops have a 1080p monitor by default -- it can be lower.

There should be a product number / serial number sticker on the bottom side of the laptop.

If your laptop is only .... 1680x1050, it won't allow you to set it to 1920x1080...

sadly a lot of laptops cheap out on panels you may be able to get a secondary monitor assuming there is a hdmi vga dvi or display port out and run that at 1080p though. There are a lot of great 75-120hz 1080p monitors to choose from that are very reasonably priced. I got my son a nice on sale 75 hz 1080p 24" monitor for ~$100

added bonus to a external monitor for gaming at home would be you can have a bigger screen and maybe some better dedicated gaming input devices for use there btu retain your on the go ability of the laptop if you need it.

I have a nice desktop but take one of my 1440p 144hz monitors with me on trips for this very reason.

not on the laptop. it just doesn't have enough pixels to display 1080p

put another way

your 1366x768 monitor has 1,046,088 pixels

a 1920 x 1080 monitor has 2,073,600 pizels

there is no way to force ~2x the pixels into your screen

If your GPU supports DSR... kinda? But it'll look like shit since the pixels don't line up. Same reason 1440p looks garbage on a 1080p screen, or vice versa - though 4K on a 1080p screen or 1080p on a 4K screen are decent because 4K (3840x2160) is exactly 2x 1080p on both height and width. That's usually in games and stuff though, for text, pushing anything different than the screen's actual resolution usually looks like utter shit.

are there programs that will claim to do so? yes. but i don't know a better way to put this than "you cannot push a button an add 2x the pixels to the area" its a hardware thing based on physical pixels preset. the software solutions really will just downscale the image and decide what to show and what not to show on said pixels and things will still look ~the same except distorted
