Asus PG258Q 240-200hz problems

Hi,

Just bought the display mentioned above and I can't get it to work on 240hz. Nvidia CP shows 1080p @ 240hz, but once I choose it the screen goes black, gives maybe 2 flickers of desktop and then reverts back to 144hz. Same goes for 200hz. 144hz works fine. Using latest drivers.

Tried different cables (dp1.4) and ports, G-Sync on and off etc.

Other hardware:

i7-7700k

GTX960

270Z mobo

Any ideas?

Can you try Display port? I don't think HDMI 2.0 supports 240hz.

He tried. And HDMI 2.0b does support 1080p240...

Try other PCs, maybe with newer graphics cards (like Pascal). And BTW, did you connect your monitor to motherboard display outputs or to GPU?

Purify your Windows 10/11, don't give Microsoft anything that you don't want to share.

Maybe that is the only option to troubleshoot this. Too bad that I don't have another computer with newer gpu laying around..

And yes, it is connected to the gpu.

Ask friends with laptops/PCs.

No. Only 144hz and slower and all of them are stable.

Sounds like the cable cannot handle HBR2 transmission speed then. I would recommend using a VESA-certified DP cable: https://www.amazon.com/Club3D-CAC-2068-DisplayPort-Cable-6-56ft/dp/B0767F5DNR/

Latest that I used was this https://www.delock.com/produkte/908_Displayport/85660/merkmale.html

But I can get my hands on those Club3d cables so I try that out..

Here is a video of the flicker and a snapshot from the video when the screen flashes on, just to show that it is trying to display @200hz. It does the exact same thing on Windows even though in the video I'm running csgo.

Basically everything is consistent with the connection trying to switch to HBR2 transmission speed (required for 1080p >144 Hz), failing link training, and falling back to HBR mode (max 1080p 144 Hz), which is due to an inadequate cable. Which is pretty common for non-certified cables. However, your cable is listed as certified, so it could just be defective. Not sure.

Got the Club3D cable. No luck with that either.
