It's a security feature.

Why would you log into this site in incognito?

At work so I don't stay logged in or it shows up in the history.

Your employer may still be able to track what sites you visit, even while browsing incognito. Just something to keep in mind if browsing sites during work hours is something that could get you in trouble. If it's a concern the best practice would be to use your own personal devices on your own network (mobile data).

It's the same as Twitter, Facebook, etc. While our security profile is obviously lower than those sites, we do still want to provide security, especially for staff. At the moment, there is no way for us to customise the email settings per-user or per-group, so it has been enabled for everyone.

If a significant volume of people would like it turned off, I can look into modifying the software to make it user-configurable, but I would need more than one person asking for that. I have already suggested to IPS that they make it user-configurable.

As others have mentioned, if browsing the forum at work could get you in trouble, you just shouldn't do it.

Incognito mode has some useful features, but masking what your computer is doing on your corporate network isn't one of them.

Not an issue with employer as long that the job is done, and the job is done. Mostly using it because it's a shared computer and compared to my coworkers I don't leave stuff like my mailbox or my history (even tho SFW) open to prying eyes.

I guess I could live with email notifications.

I received an email like that too today, and I'm not even browsing this forum in incognito mode.

This was easy enough to solve though.  I simply added a spam filter rule.  Whenever LTT sends me an email that includes the words "just logged in", it'll get deleted automatically.

Yeah, sure, this reduces security etc.  Then again by the time I see the email that warns me of suspect activity, whoever took over my account will already have had plenty of time to change the password and do all kinds of damage.

As long as it's just an email rule and not a spam filter rule, that's fine. If it does mark it as spam though, please don't do that because managing email reputation so that emails aren't flagged as spam is a total nightmare, especially with Microsoft.

@LinusTech I also am having this problem.  I browse LTT forums from several different locations (using my login.) I also think my ISP incorrectly shows my geo-location (from these e-mails.)  I get about 1-2 of these e-mails per day.  Is this a new feature?

The "has logged into this device before" state is stored in cookies, so if you clear your cookies, or are using in from a new device, then you will receive the email next time you log in.

Ah, yeah, it's an email filtering rule.  I should have explained that better.

I set my Outlook up to look at the sender and those 3 words.  When Outlook detects those, it simply deletes the mail instead of putting it in my inbox.

Aha.  I have set up my Firefox to delete all cookies, logins etc whenever I close the browser.  I've had mine open since the first time I received that mail, so you shouldn't have had to send a second mail my way yet.

I've never received the email. Does it not happen with alternative sign in options? I use gmail to login.

It only happens since the update on Tuesday - before that, there was a similar feature but it was configurable. We have changed the way that it works, which is why it's no longer configurable.
