I just decided to update my BIOS (wish I hadn't now) as it was running a version from 2017. I went to the msi website searched for the z370 a-pro (my MB of course) downloaded the latest BIOS update. Put it onto a flash drive. Booted into the BIOS selected MFLASH selected the file. And it updated. Then restarted. All it does now is boot to the MSI screen with the DEL for BIOS etc. Then goes straight to the recovery screen (screenshot below) press any of the options just causes the page to like refresh. I am utterly lost and extremely pissed off.

Sounds like your boot order/configuration got reset to default. I would go into the bios and make sure your boot orders are right.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have windows installed on an m.2 ssd and it isn't available in the selection. Any idea why this would be?

I don't know why that would be, but that does give me the feeling that not all might be lost. I once had a problem with my m.2 SSD, and reseating did the job. It shouldn't, but you could try it anyways to be sure.
