Faster experience/PC or new experience/gadget?

Lunch break pondering...

 

I'm currently running off a 10 year old + i7 rig that is slow but sufficient for my gaming and general activities... I'm not a heavy gamer, I game maybe an hour a day, and the other hardware intensive activity I indulge are small machine learning projects on a 1060.

 

I'm stuck between deciding on getting an upgrade potentially worth $1500 or perhaps spending that money on something that would provide a unique experience. Examples below:

3D printing

VR

 

Do you feel me? Has anyone else been in a similar position? Money to spend but not quite sure what. Are there any new techs out there to explore?

I would say split it. You don't need a top of the range 3d printer or a tip of the range pc. Why not get mid range both ?
