X470-i misbehaving with fast RAM

Hi,

My computer (Asus ROG 470-i + 16gb 3600MHz low profile Corsair RAM + AMD 3800X) doesn't post. 

 

When powering on, the fan spins for about 1 second, stops, then nothing happens. The debug LED doesn't come on either. I get no video out.

 

With my friends Corsair 3200Mhz ram, everything boots fine.

 

I've updated bios to most recent (so it supports the AMD  3xxx series of CPUS, and I've cleared the CMOS. All to no avail.

 

I'm at my wit's end, help me out ladies and gents.

Does the system book at stock default settings?

Default should run the RAM at fail-safe JEDEC specifications (e.g. DDR4-2133).

DON'T enable XMP.

Boots perfectly fine with the slower ram, no issues.

Getting nothing from the 3600 kit, can't even get into BIOS as I'm not getting anything from display. I don't want it too run too long either in the case my CPU cooks - the fan doesn't spin.

You get the no boot problem AFTER you enable XMP to run the RAM at DDR4-3600?

No problem if you run either kits at JEDEC default DDR4-2133?

 

If that is the case, then DDR4-3600 might be too aggressive for the CPU / motherboard to handle then.

...makes some sense with a 400-series motherboard.

 

If the DDR4-3600 kit is just not working completely, even with the BIOS at 100% defaults, then you have a faulty RAM stick.
