Frame rate inconsistent across two different version of Windows?

Hello everyone,

Avid Dota 2 Player here from Malaysia. I'm having this problem of inconsistent FPS in game (Dota 2), whereas the current main drive I'm on is:

- Sandisk old m.2 sata ssd (Sandisk x300)

- Ryzen 1600

- Asrock AB350M HDV

- T-Force 16gb 3000mhz ram

- Galax GTX 1060

- Windows 1809

- Nvidia Driver 430.86

Fps average on team fights is around 140-160 on the top right fps counter.

And recently I bought a crucial BX500 480gb ssd, and installed a fresh version of Windows 1903, with the latest nvidia drivers.

Run dota 2 on it and fps average is around 100-120 fps. Sometimes it even dips to the mid 90's.

Reformated it, run it on Nvidia 430.86 drivers and still same.

Any suggestions?

Try using Vulkan. This guy reported tripling his FPS by doing that:

Alternatively, install Linux and configure DOTA 2 to use Vulkan. Valve made sure that DOTA 2 runs well on Linux for SteamOS.

Good post Grockle your on the money with this one.  1809 came out 3 times lol and it was still sorta buggy but for the most part you wont experience those bugs.  However it is a fact it is all uncle billys fault, your hardware is fine.  Also 1903 is nice and solid, but you can get these stupid issues with it as well as the 1809.  However for the most part 1903 is rock solid however upgrading to it depending on your computer can give some issues like sleep issues and so on.

See if you can install fresh copy with 1809 or upgrade to it after OS installation. Do not install nVidia drivers and try DOTA 2 with the stock drivers from the WIndows install.  If all runs well now you can install the latest nVidia drivers and let us know.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Turns out after multiple formats, i think i have managed to get down with stable version of windows 10 while maintaining high fps in dota2.

I had to remove my m.2 ssd, and plug in only my new sata ssd, and installed windows on it. Everything seems to be working okay so far.

Will update soon enough if there is any hiccups.
