Hiya, I have a little problem with my Asus ROG GL702VSK gaming laptop. The machine's running great, but the 230W psu that came with it is just not sufficient.

After hours upon hours of testing I came to the conclusion that I absolutely need a new psu, since the thermals are nice, but msi afterburner keeps throwing power limit for the gpu (like constantly). Eventhough I have a 7700hq clocked at an average of 3.5ghz and a 1070 mobile (not maxq!) clocked at roughly 1850mhz, I only get around e.g. 40fps in Battlefield 1 at 50% gpu utilisation. Same goes for many other games.

My current psu's specifications are 19.5V and 11.8A (~230W). I am in need of assistance on where or even how to search for an external power supply. Thanks in advance!

That's not your PSU.

If your PSU was overloaded, it would shut off.

The "powerlimit" is because of the VRM on the mainboard for the GPU.  Afterburner has no idea what the capacity of your power brick is or if it's overloaded or not.  It's not an "intelligent" power system in that sense.

The problem you're facing is not related to the power adapter you use to charge the laptop. Power Limit is set by your GPU. Your laptop is most likely running in some power savings mode that is limiting the GPU Power Limit to reduce power consumption and extend battery life. Switch it to high performance mode and see if that improves the situation. You might also need to change the power management for 3D applications in the Nvidia control panel as well.
