Swapping new Intel CPU and motherboard into AMD rig - What about windows?

Hello,

I am swapping out my Ryzen 5 2600 and MSI x470 board  out of my build for an i7-9700k and MSI z390 board. I will be using all of the same components as the last build, but with different MB and CPU. Case, power supply, RAM, M.2 and HD, etc. will all remain the same.

My question is how can I do this to ensure a stable boot of windows as I know windows on my M.2 will have been installed with AMD drivers.

I hear that it is best to just reinstall, but I am not entirely sure how to go through that. Will I lose my data on my current M.2 with a reinstall? If I do need to reinstall, exactly how would I go about that? Do I need to somehow wipe my drive before I install in into the intel motherboard and then use a boot drive from there?

If someone would give me a run down on the best way to make this swap, I would appreciate it. It is surprisingly under covered.

Thanks!

Windows 10 may not boot due to another M.2 controller, but this is really a big "MAY not". due to the fact that W10 got way better at supporting hardware on a base level.

Then to make sure for the future no hiccups will occur, a fresh install might be best.

Else I would start by booting into safe mode the last time in the old system (after downloading the new drivers you need for your new system onto a usb stick, removing all the drivers, that are not needed anymore, then do a shutdown. Move the hardware, then only connect the boot/os drive and try to boot up the system. if it does, install al the drivers needed, then shut down and connect the other drives if applicable.

Again, when switching the whole platform, the better way is a fresh install.

You should do a clean install when changing motherboards.

It's no hard.

Just move your documents to another drive and unplug it while reinstalling.
