My mother might be wanting a new computer to work on and she plays absolutely zero video games ever and has no use for a powerful computer. I was thinking of these specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200g

MOBO: A320 or B350 something

RAM: 8gb 2400 or 2666 mhz

GPU: NVIDIA GT 1030

Power Supply: Literally anything that will run well with this setup.

My question is, will an A320 motherboard be enough to handle a 3200G processor?

I think the most intensive task she will ever do is watch a video on youtube or netflix...

Also, she says she wants a touchscreen but she doesn't want a laptop. Is there such a thing as a touchscreen monitor for a desktop?

An A320 board will handle a 3200G just fine with a BIOS update, but I also don't see why you're going for a GT 1030 since the 2200G's iGPU is almost as powerful already. There are touchscreen monitors on the market but good ones tend to be quite expensive ($270+ for 24" 1080p).

PSU-wise, a 400W-class 80+ Bronze unit will do fine, such as a CX450 or CX450M.

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 500GB Crucial P3 Plus, 4TB Silicon Power UD90 | GPU: PowerColor Red Devil RX 6900 XT | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! Don't get 1030 get a good B450 and decent PSU like CX450,System Power (U)9, etc.

Why shouldn't I get a 1030? It has 2gb of VRAM which is more than she will ever use, and B450 is good for budget overclocking, which I will never do to her computer, but thanks for the power supply suggestion.

Why 1030? The point of an APU is to not use a dedicated graphics card.

200GE will probably do the job already, tho APUs that start with a 2 only work out of the box with B450, X470 and X570 boards. 3200G are only compatible out of the box with X570 and a few B450 boards that specifically market 3rd gen compatibility so I'd rather have the 2200G even if you want more cores than 2.

There are both touchscreen monitor (looks more like a tablet) and touchpads (imagine ripping one out from a laptop) you can use.

I agree that the Ryzen iGPUs are pretty powerful, even good enough for light gaming, but I want dedicated VRAM... I realize that it doesn't really matter for office work, but I want this computer to last for a long while.

Not a valid reason. APUs take system RAM as VRAM (as it always have been), want more usable VRAM? Get a 16GB kit. Cheaper than a 1030, more flexible when you want more RAM but dont need VRAM.

And I suppose that if she ever does start doing things that require a more powerful setup, I could just add an RX card or a GTX 1650 or something....

Isn't a 1650 still much, much better than a Ryzen iGPU? And the price is lower? Unlike some PC enthusiasts, I have very little money to work with. That is yet another reason I would have loved to go with a B350 or A320 board... They're cheaper.

B350 or A320 motherboard requires a BIOS update if you are using Ryzen 3000 series processor. Refer to the motherboard specs, as some motherboard don't and won't support Ryzen 3000. Many B450 motherboard do offer support for Ryzen 3000 series processors.

You can install a GPU card, but you can hold your horses over there. Ryzen 3200g is quite powerful for full HD (1080p) video playback, and some older games. If you require a 4k video streaming, maybe you can go for 3400g. Depending on your wife's usage, you might not even need to a graphic card at all, although I would suggest you to go dual channel with your RAM (2x 4GB instead of 1x 8GB). If you are only streaming video, you don't need a dedicated graphic card. My laptop Intel's iGPU Intel Graphics 4400 can handle without issues.

As for touch screen monitor, it would be much expensive than normal monitor. I have not much data on this, so I'm sorry if I can't help you further.

Well, just an after thought, have you ever consider AIO system, such as Dell Inspiron 3000 All-in-One? Some offer touch screen display, though you lose the freedom of upgradability (You still can upgrade the RAM and storage, though).

at the price of the 1650 you can get much better performing GPUs.

1650 itself is slower than an RX 570 but cost more for example. I'm saying it's a bad value card for anyone.

If you're looking at a 3200g and a GT 1030, you should get a 3400g instead as it's maybe even a slight bit more powerful than a 1030 and you get SMT. Just get a 2x8gb kit of 3000 or 3200mhz ram.

AMD Ryzen 5900X

T-Force Vulcan Z 3200mhz 2x32GB

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

Okay, that makes sense. I do like AMD a little more anyway... It's just a little personal preference I've always had.

Zen+ APUs aren't supported by the same microcodes that support Zen+ CPUs. You can see how older B450 boards only support Zen+ APUs with way newer BIOS versions than their first BIOS (since B450 launched with compatibility for Zen+ CPUs).

e.g. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B450-TOMAHAWK#support-cpu

7C02v18 for everything 3000 series (including Zen based 3000G) while 7C02v10 is enough for 2000 series

The Asus B450-F (https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B450-F-GAMING/HelpDesk_CPU/) shows better how the architecture of a certain CPU is completely unrelated to first BIOS version that supports such CPU.

and geez how bored are you to visit a thread from last year to try correct someone?
