hey guys

My little brother is up grading his pc and is looking at getting :

Corair vengeance 2 x 8 ddr4 300 mhz

amd ryzen 5 2600 x

msi x 470 gaming plus motherboard

i seen something saying that the corsair vengeance ram wont work with the x 470 anyone have any thoughts or motherboards with the same specs that matches the price.   the price at the moment is pretty strict so far it sits at 300 € and it needs to stay around that price and we are hoping to keep the parts on amazon as we are from ireland.

 thanks for any help

You can use PCPartPicker to verify.

It'll work, but I'd change out the x470 for a b450 tomahawk (max, if available) and a ryzen 5 3600(x).

thanks for the help and any reason you would choose the b450 over the x 470

You don't need an X470/570; you're not putting a 3900X in it. Plus the B450 Tomahawk has great VRMs anyway.

The 3600(X) is much better than the 2600(X), hence why I recommended it.

Ryzen 7 3700X / 16GB RAM / Optane SSD / GTX 1650 / Solus Linux

Chances are you're fine. Memory compatibility is pretty good these days and you're not dealing with a server platform (where things can get quite a bit pickier) but assuming you haven't purchased the RAM yet if you're really worried about it you can check the QVL (Qualified Vendor List) for the motherboard/CPU then pick from the list.

on the QVL it doesnt seem to have it, the code would be CMK16GX4M2D3000C16

The chances are you'll still be fine. It's just if your really worried about it following the QVL is an option. I'm more partial to G.Skill memory and it's always worked even though the models I use are never on the QVL for the boards I use.

yeah the QVL doesnt show compatability with that ram, and from what i heard the clock speed is too high, would you be able to give me advice on what i could do if this was the case

thank you for the replys

If he'll end up getting a ryzen 3rd gen instead of a second gen, make sure, that you have a plan for upgrading the bios. 400 series boards don't support them out of the box.

yes i read that but appearantly its very easy it is able to update without a cpu by a flashdrive in the back and bios update button

EDIT : would the pro version of the MB be better to get as it is currently cheaper due to sale

If the mainboard supports that, it is great. Just wanted to mention it, if you change it.
