I got a 4TB HDD from Seagate. I know some of you are going to say that buying Seagate is the problem and I am inclined to agree with you.  I started downloading every game I own from steam.  This takes a really long time for me seeing that I have a 20 Mbps download speed on a good day.  After most of the games finished downloading I had no problems.  This was until I started buying new games (as one does).  I went back to play some of my other games, and they would crash or have missing textures.  I verified some of these games, and they had a huge amount of files missing or corrupt. GTA-V had over 5GB missing or corrupt.  I don't have a virus and my drive hasn't been moved or even touched in a while.  I can replicate this problem by downloading more files.  Once I reach around 1TB, games start to disappear.  Any ideas of what's wrong, or things I should be looking for? (sorry if I'm doing this whole forum thing wrong, I never really used these much)

That sounds like what happens with those fake $20 1 TB microSD cards that are just 8 GB or something flashed to claim they're more, but I've never heard of this happening with a HDD before.  Is it a new drive or did you get it used or something?  Might want to check the SMART data with something like CrystalDiskInfo

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

That is exactly what I thought.  I got the HDD from Amazon new.  It was sold directly from Amazon, not a 3rd party. I just got CrystalDiskInfo and it looks like my drive isn't doing too well.  The drive is less than 6 months old but it looks like the drive is boned.  I didn't know programs like CrystalDiskInfo existed, so thanks for that!  I'm going to hit up Seagate and get a replacement. if you are curious about what is happening to the drive, ill tell you the errors it is giving me.  I don't know a lot about storage so I don't know what any of it means but you might get a kick out of it.

Could be useful to others if they come across this thread with a similar issue, and I suppose I am curious so go ahead :) Censor out any unique info though like serial number, especially since this would still (thankfully) be under warranty.  Hopefully that resolves this once and for all.

TL;DR

Current Pending Sector Count: 8

Uncorrectable Sector Count: 8

Again I don't know hat this means, but I'm sure someone who knows this language will get a kick out of it.

TL;DR

Reallocated Sectors Count: 1312

Current Pending Sector Count: 8

Uncorrectable Sector Count: 8

Again I don't know hat this means, but I'm sure someone who knows this language will get a kick out of it.

Generally people will just screenshot the app, makes it a lot easier to read :P But I do recognize that last part, any issue with sectors is a sign something is indeed wrong so go for the RMA I guess and best of luck with that.

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
