Hey guys just bought a 3600 + x570 taichi, updated to latest bios and all AMD drivers installed (I think).

 

I have 3 NVMe ssd's:

    Adata sx7000 (M2_1)

    Adata sx8200 (M2_2)

    Adata sx7000 (M2_3)

 

Both of the Adata sx7000s hit their rated speeds, however the sx8200 tops out at 2,400 MB/s read and 1,600 MB/s write.

On my old 8700k + z370 setup the Adata sx8200 hit it's rated speed (3200/1700 MB/s).

PS: Using CrystalDiskMark to test speeds.

 

Anyone know what's going on?

When I got my NVMe drive, it ran at x1 instead of x4 for no reason. A reseat did the job for me. You could try that. :) CrystalDiskInfo might be able to give you this or other useful information - for me it said x1 instead of x4.

I read something that the sata driver that comes with amd's drivers can mess up some stuff. I have the latest drivers installed and a 970 evo plus and i haven't noticed anything but on reddit their is a thread about the issue. 

 

Does your PC also take a long time to boot.

In CrystalDiskInfo it says transfer mode PCIe 3.0 x4 | PCIe 3.0 x4

Does your PC also take a long time to boot. 

Yea after the OS hand off Windows loads really fast but the bios time is pretty long.

Just try uninstalling your Amd chipset drivers and reinstall them but uncheck the sata driver and see if that fixes your issue after a restart 

 

Also make sure you are on the latest bios and make sure its running and PCI-3.0

What is the sata driver called?

I see PCI device driver, PSP Driver, Ryzen Power Plan, SMBus Driver.

Hmm. Uninstalled the driver and restarted. Also removed it from device manager and then restarted but still only getting 2,400 MB/s read.

 

Any other ideas?

Hmmm... The Adata sx8200 is an NVMe 1.3 drive while crystal disk info shows that it is working at NVMe 1.2. It still says PCIe 3.0 x4 though.

Anyone know if this is the issue? And if it is how do I fix it?

I assume it's a software issue / driver issue but as far as I can tell AMD doesn't have specific NVMe drivers as they are built into windows 10.

Updated to BIOS version P2.00 still no luck.

Tried with AS SSD in case CrystalDiskMark was being weird; same results. Only about 2,200MB/s read.

 

Crystal disk info says the SSD is at PCIe gen3x4 which is correct but it shows the NVMe standard as 1.2 instead of 1.3.

 

Maybe a driver issue?

Have you try using different slot?

Yea there appears to be an issue with the x570 taichi with the adata sx8200:
When put in the lowest m.2 slot (M2_3) speed is 2200MB/s
When put in the middle m.2 slot (M2_2) speed is 2600MB/s
When put in the top m.2 slot (M2_1) speed is 2900MB/s

 

I don't think it's a driver issue because if it was, the drive wouldn't speed up and slow down depending on which m.2 slot it was placed in. Also tried with a pcie 3.0 x4 to m.2 adapter and still only got 2900MB/s. On my 8700k+Asrock z370 gamimg k6 I got the full 3200MB/s.

 

Tried updating BIOS to P2.00, nah.

Tried benching on linux to see if it was a windows issue, no dice.

Load optimized defaults in bios, nada.

Overclock RAM in case that's important, nope.

Disconnected everything but a GPU, boot SSD, and the adata sx8200, still nope.

Tried with 1, 2, and 4 sticks of ram, still 2900MB/s in the top slot.

 

Asrock support has been shockingly unhelpful basically just saying "well it works for us so good luck"

I see. Well then, I'm sorry to hear that.

 

I wonder, could there be a firmware issues? Usually, SSD has a firmware that dictates how it can communicating with the motherboard. Maybe a firmware update of the SSD might work? I do remember I have to update some HDD firmware to get them to use SATA III instead of SATA II protocol.
