The 960M is a maxwell GPU, which is much better optimized than Kepler. If gaming is the primary use case, the 960M is the way to go. If you have a workload that benefits from a Quadro, take the Quadro.

The 960M isn't fast enough to care about 2GB+ VRAM, so I wouldn't worry about it.

actually online benchmark is between 4 gb gtx960m and 4 gb quadro k3100m

and gtx 960m has better score.

so i was confused between 2 GB and 4 gb version of gtx 960m

The GTX 960M is a fair way faster. Some games you may have to use medium texture packs because of the smaller VRAM is the only issue.

is the performance of 2 gb gtx 960m is better than 4 gb quadro k3100m?

Not really a reputable source, but it's pretty clear that the 960M is quite a bit faster in non-compute workloads.

Also, look at these benchmarks instead:

The performance is a lot better just you may have to use lower resolution textures because of the lower memory.
