Ryzen 3700x vs i7 9700 for gaming?

16 threads vs 8 cores? For gaming for the span of 7 years. Considering new consolololes will have many cores. What do you think? Thanks.

If you have the money, I would recommend you to buy the i7 9700k, best gaming cpu out there no doubt. 3700x might be a good choice for other programs other than gaming.

if you game and play youtube/4k netflix at the same time, either is fine for now, though in the near future 8 threads MIGHT not be enough for that, i'm still thinking myself between 3700x vs 9700k on a budget build.

the 9900k is better tho........ unlike the 9700k. the 9900k doesnt suffer from the lack of HT. something that has been devastating for 4c/4t and 6c/6t are starting to feel the same effect.

Building PC for a friend. I recently bought 3600x and rtx 2060 thanks to this forum. Was on a budget.

This is the final rig for my friend, what do you think? 1477 $USD. Engineering work and gaming for 5+ years.

We'll wait until 5700 XT will come out with custom cooler.

Gpu benchmark shows me that 5700 XT is the same as 2080 (non ti). Is it the same in practice? The price difference is ridiculous.

swap PSU for a cx550

get a mx500 SSD instead. it should be cheaper and perform the same.

arctic freezer 33/34 esports one/duo should be cheaper and better.

no..........

the 5700 xt is slighly faster than the rtx 2070.

also you should get an AIB partner card instead of the reference design. you should avoid the reference design, its bad.

Thank you for the valuable input!

I am myself a fan of Crucial brand.

We'll wait for an AIB 5700 XT for sure, the upper is just a template.

Are you sure 550watt PSU is alright for this AMD RADEON rig? I've heard PSUs degrade over time.

PSUs do not degrade over time. a good quality 550w PSU is more than enough for your rig.

''This is the final rig for my friend, what do you think? 1477 $USD. Engineering work and gaming for 5+ years.''

I was gonna say the 9700K will be superior to the 3700x in most games. But now that you added unspecified ''Engineering work'', i could easily imagine your friend benefiting from the superior multi-core performance of the 3700x over that of the 9700k for his profession.

A 9900K will yield the best of both worlds, the gaming performance of the 9700k with the multi-core performance of the 3700x. But with the price point of the 3900x, which in turn is far superior in multi-core performance. It depends on what is important for your friend. But at current budget, the 3700x is my choice.

Motherboard: Asus X570-E
CPU: 3900x 4.3GHZ

Memory: G.skill Trident GTZR 3200mhz cl14

GPU: AMD RX 570

SSD1: Corsair MP510 1TB

SSD2: Samsung MX500 500GB

PSU: Corsair AX860i Platinum

Yeah, his workplace is engineering new metal alloys and stuff for Russian aviation and such. Oh sh*t, now I'm gonna be sent to Siberia for telling you that ?

Since he is doing engineering work get the 3700x, the 9700k is possibly the best CPU for single minded, serious and or competitive gaming, but if you are doing anything else besides gaming the 3700x makes way more sense.  Hes not going to lose out much in gaming unless he was extremely serious, OCD even, about pushing the highest FPS possible (well beyond 144hz) on medium-lower detail to say support a 240hz monitor, like if he is the type of person who always turns off all backround processes, turns graphics and resolution down as much as is tolerable etc just to get every single frame possible and is obsessed with say input latency etc over everything else.  Most people aren't like that and given he likely has multi-threaded workloads to worry about the 3700x makes more sense, he'll still game more then good enough.

Also, its likely the 3700x will age better, as will whatever motherboard he pairs with it (AM4 babbyy)

He's not like that of course. More of a Witcher 3, Elder Scrolls and GTA type of a guy. He wants to buy Acer Nitro VG240YUbmiipx monitor for his RIG. 2k 75hz IPS.

Oh ya, well in that case him investing in a GPU and maxing settings to what he can get away with is going to do make him happier anyways, all the while the 3700x will work great with everything and anything else he throws at it for the $ it is.
