LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

Aaaaaaah now I get it. Does that mean Linux "kind of keeps the old driver in memory" so current applications don't crash - but then when my F@H tried fetching new GPU-folds/WUs it couldn't  start the process again?

The NVidia drivers are kernel modules so they will remain resident until a reboot or explicitly unloaded and reloaded which I’m not certain can be done without making the system unstable.

It could be one of the libraries linked against the new driver was called when the new WU was started and that stopped the Folding process.

At any rate, after a new graphics driver, or anything that writes a new initramfs to grub is run, a reboot is usually a good idea. Excluding security updates you can generally get away with keeping an old video driver in use for a long time unless it addresses any issues you’ve been experiencing.

Whoo nelly the basement is getting a little toasty:

went out out and bought a couple of 10” fans for intake on the basement window sill and a 24” box fan which I have, in true LTT style, hanging from the ceiling exhausting the hot air out of the unfinished area.

Treating the basement like a big computer case!

Now why doesn’t Noctua make iPPC 3000 fans in 10 and 24” 120v PWM?

Hi EVERYONE,
I wanna show you a new thing:

I just made a music video dissing Linus, Intel, Apple, RGB, Asus ROG all by myself (Inlcuding beat, edit, mix, master, lyrics & etc.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_nbC74cXXg

Can we share this a lot till linus reacts to it?

How is this relevant to the post topic? Please, this post is about folding proteins, not listening to diss tracks.

Do you mean in the badge request thread? Then yes, you have to request the badge(s) again as they don't monitor your account, they just do a static check when you request a badge.

Is it badges for this event and you have signed up, then you have to wait as the event and thus the qualification for the badges haven't even started yet.

I mean the REGISTER HERE link at the top of this page.

Are the event badges and the thread request badges 2 different things, as in, I should do both?

Starts October, 1st (00:00 BST)

Ends November, 4th (23:59 GMT)

and

minimum requirements: 100k points, 20 WUs, and 20 days of having activity over the course of the whole month

So yes, two different sign-ups and the folding month is a special event with its own special badge for those who participate and meet the requirements during the month of October.

And if you participate and qualify during the month of October, you will get your badge automatically for the event.

Update time,

we have 1,417 sign ups for the event, with 696 active folders for team LTT producing 140,467,253 over the last 24 hours.

Good to see production slowly climbing for the team as the event grows ever closer.

kernel swaps with no down time are possible on linux but not many distros support it. and it's a tricky thing I'd only recommend to be done by those who know what they're actually doing.

good to see you've started folding again, i was having fun trying to catch up with you

I saw the shoutout on the wan show and decided I should probably install my second 1080ti back into the machine and try setting up folding on em both. Swapped the paste on the strix one, difference in load about 20 degrees. down from 27 to 21 on idle, with room temp 19.7 lol. Had fans blasting all the time though, but that's fine by me.

Changed the bios to the XOC one, having fun running afterburner in voltage/frequency editor (ctrl+f, never knew it was a thing), just trying to up production a notch.

Should mess with the evga card a little later.

your sustained output was about 500m more than mine so who knows. by the end of october i'll be ramping things back down because ouch oof power usage so you may still overtake me yet

by sustained you mean yearly? I used to run 1 gpu 24/7 and one on-off as I'm gaming too. So that leaves about 1.6-2m daily.

had that problem with a 1070, couldn't sleep well. nothing to do there :/

also, I love how the card behaves with the extreme bios. It slowly heats up to 75 degrees but doesn't even think to throttle or anything. For gaming in stuff I do this would be awesome.

...

Though somehow on 75 degrees it just crashes :D

but it shouldn't ever reach that temperature when not full-blown kombustoring the s*** out of it

also somewhy it decided to up voltage a notch after reaching 74 degrees.

i haven't got this problem. the heat output though? oh BOY.

just took a second to calculate how much more power it takes to do furmark at max boost frequency, when I was hitting 75 degrees running 1.093v and 2050 freq effective.. looks like that's (2050/1733)*(1.093/0.9)^2 (values on the right are where it gets power limited under stock bios at about 110% of tdp, that being 275 watts roughly)

so that's like.. over 450 watts. no shit it's going to heat up to 75C. Well at least I can survive without any central heating running (thanks gov for still waiting to turn it on, I'm freaking freezing over here)

when we had the c22 work units out, that 2080ti of mine was sucking down a healthy 400 watts just on it's own lmao, add in the 1080ti pulling about 320 as well. i spent the whole winter with my radiator off.

I don't even remember those ever.. been folding on/off several years now.
