LTT Official Folding Month 2019!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Alright guys, the time for locking this thread has come, can you all please use the Folding Community Board for all further talk.

Thank you all again for participating in the event.

Once the sheet is cleaned up I will edit this post to add the link to the spreadsheet.

@TVwazhere Can you please lock this thread for me.

What does your Vcore voltage show in the output of sensors? I know the super i/o voltage monitoring is not as accurate as it could be but it is generally pretty close.

These voltages aren't labeled, but I'm fairly certain in0 is the Vcore.

What does:

sudo cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep MHz

show?

can you use hfm to monitor multiple clients on one system?

Absolutely. As long as the Control Port (TCP 36330) is open to the monitoring host and it has a reachable IP Address

in0 usually is on most motherboards and luckily that one is within the 3.3V range of most super i/o chips and so doesn't have to be scaled.

1.13v is reasonable for 3.45 MHz all-cores so it doesn't look like you have one of those silly BIOSes that unnecessarily crank Vcore so as you suspect you're probably just at the limit of what the stock cooler can dissipate.

BTW - If you look in the configs directory for lm-sensors you might find a template for your motherboard or you can just look here on GitHub for the most recent templates. There's not a lot of current ones but generally sticking to the same manufacturer you might be able to find on for the similar model in a previous generation (say a Asus TUF z170 or z270 might work for a Asus TUF z370) but sometimes if you want to get it working the easiest way is to boot into Windows and take a look at HWinfo or google lm-sensors" and the model number

Hey guys I forgot to sign up for the folding event. Other than when I was moving a few months ago, I’ve been folding non-stop 24/7 for LTT Since October 2015. I was in the top 20 for two years straight and I’m still in the top 25 is there a way I can get in? Or is it actually over already? I kinda like to get the badges at least.

Unfortunately, event badge sign up deadlines were September 30th. You're still eligible for LLT sponsored giveaways since that's a seperate event so-to-speak, and you can still earn point based badges based on how much you've contributed

Man these 2060 supers are nice with the power slider maxed @ 1830mhz it goes toe to toe with my 1080ti @ 2050mhz with only 10k ppd difference.

Should be a nice bump over 5 million ppd.

@leadeater How much power are those socket 775 Pentium CPU's you're using sucking up?

I'd still be curious how effective a 3950X would be at CPU folding when it comes out. Or new Threadripper. If you could get ~300K PPD from it then it could be worth it just to supplement the GPUs.
(*I wouldn't recommend anyone buy one just for Folding since you'd likely be better off spending that money on another GPU instead, but if you already had the CPU anyway then it could probably be quite effective)

Hmmm, I did a fold run a while back on my 1950X at stock.  I will have to re-check if I still got the data on that.

Seems it did two WUs that I have record for:  one at 60K or so points and one at 100K or so points for PPD.  Note, this is with only 16 threads used and at stock clocks with an air cooler (big Noctua one for the TR4 socket).  Plus, I have it set to keep temps within and around 60C.

I could throw it at F@H, but that take away from spitting out BOINC WUs that it does way better at.  Now, if I get my lazy butt and get that J batch 5960X up, o nelly, those can crunch pretty well still.

Well that was an interesting journey of discovery. Setting the voltage manually makes the system unstable and I can no longer see the VID voltages reported for some reason... And now under full load back in auto the VIDs are topping out at 1.400V and 1.502 at low to medium load and 0.757V at no load.

This makes me wish for the comm gear I worked on in the military. You tuned it to specific voltages and frequencies and it stayed where you freaking put it. Then you ran it 24/7 for years until it died and replaced it with the same thing tuned to identical specifications.

EDIT - I'm also not doing CPU folding so the load on the CPU is only like 30% tops.

Old military comm gear sure can keep on trucking when put to work.

So, a fellow military comm person?

in my small formfactor build using my 1950X to fold puts so much heat into the waterloop that both my GPU's start to throttle a little bit..

Nvidia, please explain why Pascal cards start thermal throttling at 60C!?

....one of the reasons I soooo miss using custom BIOS to turn the blasted boost, thermal settings, and voltage limits off.

:I  Sometimes I miss the two 980Tis I had waterblocked.  Custom BIOS and both would do over 1500MHz (they would fold at 1540MHz, bench at 1570MHz) eating wattage like hogs and spitting heat out like mad (they sure where toasty).  They where great space heaters in winter.

In mean time, I got a 2nd rig to put back together and get running.  Also....buggers keep not going through with buying my two Titan Xs.  Crap this, come here air coolers, ya doing one last big fold off.  Now, if the power sockets in the walls of this old 1980s townhouse can handle all of this.

Wondering if anyone is seeing WU Queues stuck with status "Update_Core" for CPU WUs?

I have multiple computers starting to do this and would love to know how to get these cleared and working again.

I have already tried adding / removing the CPU slots and a restart, any ideas welcome.

My e3-1231v3 just had this. It's on my only Windows machine and trying to delete the slot and re-create it did not work nor changing to beta WUs. It appears that the issue is on the Folding at Home servers.

Enough of this nonsense for 20kPPD. Slot Deleted and threads moved back to BOINC

Don't I wish this GTX 1060 would get a WU that would produce 1.96MPPD on it. It would probably let the smoke out:
