Trump targets games

msknight

Trump speech posted on the BBC - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-49240310

..."Second we must stop the glorification of violence in our society. This includes the gruesome and grizzly video games that are now commonplace. It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence. We must stop or substantially reduce this and it has to begin immediately."...

So ... this is going to be interesting. Just as reports say that there is no link between games and real life violence, he comes up with this.

Jan 2018 - University of York- https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/01/180116131317.htm

"Researchers at the University of York have found no evidence to support the theory that video games make players more violent."

Feb 2019 - Oxford Internet Institute and University of Oxford - https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsos.171474

"Violent video game engagement is not associated with adolescents' aggressive behaviour: evidence from a registered report"

Oh. Right. So forget all the scientific research... they plan to battle violence in video games by... posting violence in video games. *facepalm*

I simultaneously love and hate mass shooting because of all the bs that pops up every single time and nothing changes.

Been playing ultra violent games for over 25 years. Guess how many people I've killed. ZERO. Stop blaming games you utter idiots. After every shooting, this shit surfaces like clockwork. And no one ever managed to prove any kind of correlation. And while we're at it, what game made Hitler kill so many people? Red Alert? LMAO

I love this double standard

On one side there are people that make fun of other people because they play video games and video games are just for kids

Then you have people that claim that video games are dangerous and make people violent.

SO WHICH ONE IS IT?!

I kinda agree that they need to target games... but not the violent ones... the ones that use psychological manipulation to get users addicted to spending money eternally.

Common scapegoat as society would rather blame something, ANYTHING else then hold any kind of personal responsibility for their actions. Top 3 things contributing to violent ppl: Poor mental health support, Bad parenting/upbringing, Social media.

I mean it's not like there have been hundreds of studies with tons of money spent disproving any correlation... /s

And it wins voters. Which is all they care about. Can't wait for Gen Y to take over.

yeah but gen x , millenials , and gen Y all grew up and still play violent games. This would only win over baby boomers which are now a minority vote as theres not nearly as many of them.

Why do I want to jump on a table and scream every time Trump comes out with some knee jerk reaction guff. It is not computer games that kill, it is the free availability of automatic weapons, or any weapon. Appease the NRA by blaming someone else, forget the people as long as it wins votes.

The amount of people who fit from Gen X and before made up the vast majority of voters in 2018 (https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2019/04/behind-2018-united-states-midterm-election-turnout.html)

behind-2018-united-states-midterm-electi

Also Gen X includes people from the mid 60s to early 80s. So while most of them may have played violent video games, most of them certainly didn't have the opportunity to "grow up" with them like Gen Y did.

EDIT: I should point out this chart shows the percentage of each category who voted. You'll need a population pyramid like https://www.populationpyramid.net/united-states-of-america/2017/ to get the actual numbers. But otherwise, a majority of the voting population and those who voted still fall within Gen X or prior.

Why do you think it'll be different with "Gen Y"?

When Boomers were young it was violence in comic books and movies and that devil Rock & Roll.
