R9 Fury Price

There are a couple of R9 Fury's (Specifically Sapphire Tri-x cards) for sale in my area at (what i think to be) pretty decent prices. One is 120 bucks and another is 90 bucks. The $90 one is "overheating" but i think i could just replace the thermal paste. I dont really need one i just want one lol so i was just wondering what other people thought of these prices.

yeah i thought so too. I dont think the poster knew to change the tim as they just said it started overheating after a couple of years.

Fury (non X) street price from what I've seen is typically around $120-160 so these each seem like fairly good deals. and yeah it could just be a TIM issue if the one cards overheating. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a mining card, that they just never cleaned after all the hours of constant use and the TIM went bad.

Yeah, i emailed the guy and it was already sold lol. Dont know why this would be used as a mining card tho as doesnt it draw like A LOT OF POWER, 275w i think right?

I mean that doesn't really make a difference so long as it has enough hashes; and they used to be quite high tiered on GPU hashing.  Much like the old R9 290/290x mining craze even though those things could sip upwards of 350w of power, so long as you hashed enough to make profit it didn't matter. 

 

It could be an old mining card still; from back around when it was released. That was then used for gaming until now.

I know it isnt about power consumption but the hashes per watt matter (i think, aint much of a mining guy) so wouldnt something like a 980 from around the same time be a better card.

Given how you can find used RX 480 for the same price point I'd consider the R9 Fury obsolete.

yeah i know, i dont need one (in fact i currently have more graphics cards than systems), i just want one. Kinda the same reason people buy old overpriced titans lol.

Nah, AMD cards historically almost always had better hashes per watt. GCN (their architecture) was just really really good at hashing. The 980 was fat more efficient at gaming, not at hashing.
