XPS 13 or 13" MacBook Pro?

Hi All,

 

I'm looking for an ultrabook for school and some personal programming work. I've narrowed my search down to 2 devices; the Dell XPS 13 9380 and MacBook Pro 13". The XPS is the model with 16gb of RAM, a 512gb SSD, the i7 8765u and the 1080p non-touch display, costing me about $1500. The MacBook Pro is the 4 thunderbolt port 2019 model, with the i5 8257u, 16gb of RAM, and 256gb SSD, which will cost me about $2000. I understand that the MacBook is the better device in regards to build quality, trackpad, keyboard, screen, and speakers, but is it $500-600 better? What do you guys think, and any other suggestions are also appreciated.

Um I wouldn't say the macbook has the better keyboard considering the high failure rate of the butterfly keyboards in the current macbooks.

I'm currently typing this on a 11-12 year old macbook pro, which has no problem handling the light tasks I use it for these days (browsing, excel, word, video watching), while using other computers for more serious stuff.

 

I mention that because basically, Macs can hold their value and be very usable for an extremely long time, which is something to consider.

Modern Windows laptops will also last for years as long as you choose a well build model. Even the T420s and 430s ThinkPads are still decent today.
