8 core Ryzen 5 1600? WTF?

Guys,

I built a PC for a friend. Ordered a Ryzen 1600 (without box/cooler (tray)). After I put together the system and tested it, the Firestrike physics scores were a bit too high for a r5 1600. Found out it has 8 cores.

Any way it’s broken or something or is just a free upgrade?

pics as proof lol

That happens, although it's super fucking rare. Congrats.

Damn, how rare? Like 1 in 100k thousand? Found only one instance of it happening.

Only seen one other example of this posted on these forums a year or two ago.  Very cool, probably is rare but I doubt that translates to being valuable as Ryzen 1700s can be found cheap.

Ryzen 2600 - Sapphire Pulse Vega 56 - Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 3000 C15 2x8GB - Corsair Force MP500 NVMe PCIe M.2 240GB - 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB -

AsRock B450 PRO4 - Deepcool Earlkase Case -  Seasonic Foucus+ 650

As this. A box standard r5 1600 with a few bonus cores.

Yah that was a thing for a couple chips somewhere, there are a couple examples out in the wild from what i have seen :)

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

there was news a year back or so about a batch of 1600s that someone screwed up on when locking down a couple of fully working cores, so they end up being a 1700 with a different name. bascially, you got very lucky.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W
