AMD reduces Navi GPU Prices before launch

So it looks like AMD is reducing the prices for RX 5700 series GPU before launch in response to Nvidia's RTX Super lineup. This seems to make the new Navi GPU's an even better performance/cost option. There's even a theory going around that the original pricing were all a bait for Nvidia on their Super lineup pricing and it's based off of Scott Herkelman's tweet (linked below). Whether this was planned or is more of a marketing strategy is unknown, but this "battle" between AMD and Nvidia on the graphics side can only mean better prices and performance options gamers and consumers now and in the future.

Edit: ty @seon123, I didn't realize that the link wouldn't generate an autopicture. Here's the picture tweeted by AMD with the updated prices.

Really hoping these turn out well. Love the price drop, but we gotta wait and see what performance is like and what the cost of a good AIB card will be. This also gives me hope for the rumors of AMD having more Navi cards up its sleeve. I was afraid the prices would be too high based on what the original prices of these cards were, but this gives me hope!

It could be that AMD anticipated Nvidia doing an RTX series price-drop after Navi was announced, and so AMD deliberately announced their prices with room to reduce them before launch after Nvidia made their move.

Maybe they are fully reacting. However, I think that Nvidia doing something to undercut AMD's launch was pretty expected at this point, and that the possibility wouldn't have escaped AMD.

Good news for all of us.

From that "leaked benchmark", performances of the 5700 are nearly on par with the 2060 super, so it being 150$ 50$ cheaper, is great news.

... If that "leaked benchmark" is legit, tho.

It's not $150 cheaper. The 2060 Super is $399 and the 5700 is $349. It's the 2070 Super that is $499.

RX 5700 at $349 still isn't perfect for the midrange, but with a fairly large improvement over the 2060, and with that 8gb VRAM...it's just about bearable. Thanks to AMD for making the right decision. We finally have something to buy in the midrange.

I think it's safe to say that the 2070 Super is pointless now. RX 5700 XT being $100 less while being within touching distance makes it a decent choice.

Don't get me wrong, we still can't really defend the prices. They should STILL be $50 lower and both AMD and Nvidia know darn well what they've done wrong here. But at $349 I think people should be just about able to stomach it given all the benefits over the 2060 that it brings.

The midrange was being sent to the burial site, coffin ready to be placed for July 7th. And thankfully AMD has come to the rescue at the last minute.

Oh right, Google is confusing sometimes with their top story on top when you look up the prices... I specifically searched for the 2060 Super's price and it came out with the 2070...

Actually not sure if this was a true work of Jebait or AMD saving face but I love it. 5700XT @ 350 or even 300 would have been ideal but everyone wants that moni

I feel bad for reviews who probably already finished videos/articles with the old pricing baked in. Especially linus since they normally have a price to performance scale.

I'd give a damn if Navi wasn't a complete disappointment.

AMD..... stop shooting for the cheap seats. You already did that and it didn't work. In the end, not offering a high end alternative just makes you look like the "cheap Chinese knockoff company". It makes you look weak, and results in new customers looking at your lineup and saying "well they only target the low end so it must be cheap garbage".

I am waiting for the 7.th and watch the reviews VERY closely since i am planning to get an rtx 2070 super soon(tm). If the Navi cards can fulfill what they promised i might consider the 5700 XT, but deep inside i really hope for an attack on the high end by AMD at the 500$ mark. At the moment, NVidia still can get away with their ridiculous rtx 2080 and 2080 ti prices since AMD has not (yet?) revealed a competition for high end cards. Just imagine something like a 5800XT for 500$ that is on par or even better then the 2080 - which would effectively be a kick in the balls for Nvidia.

I really do believe that initial pricing was a bait, it did look somewhat more costly than you'd think and especially in that tier, so. But yeah, great.

Hopefully the 5700 XT is more of a 2070 than a 2060 Super, because otherwise you are paying the same price as a 2060 Super for the same performance, minus RTX (which might not many much/anything to you - but you are not getting it in spite of paying the same price)

The leaked benchmark has this as a better than 2070, so that's a good sign. Let's see what reputable reviewers have to say in 2 days.

Well, AMD would have loved to sell at those prices. (More margin is more margin, after all.) But it does look like AMD set their prices with response options to Nvidia's refresh. Nvidia chose to cut some prices and raise some others, which AMD responds right after the prices are locked in. (It also suddenly improves the first impression/launch analysis of the 5700 cards.)

Well, I'v heard they are working two cards/not true that is, and one is supposed to be higher than the XT.

Then they need to say it loud and proud.
