Is the length of my ethernet cord hurting my internet?

Hamface55

Hello,

So I have been using a 20 foot long ethernet cord because its the only thing I have on hand. The issue is though is it shows I am getting good internet on the ookla speed test but in my games I am lagging a ton. To the point its unplayable. Everyone else in my house is fine and they are all connected through wifi. Any help?

Hi. The length the cable does not determine your internet connection speed. You're only getting high ping is because you're far away from the server(s) itself.

But its every game I play. And it will work fine for a month and then will be garbage for 2 months.

Then it has nothing to do with the cable.

Any suggestions on what it could be?

I agree it is garbage but everyone else in my house is fine. Why would it just target me? 2 other people in my house run games off of gaming pcs and consoles.

There is a slight possibility that your cable is bad and that's causing packets to need to be resent, but the likelihood of that is pretty low.

Chances are the problem is somewhere else.
