What card to pick

mikehunt_

What gpu should I pick for a Ryzen 3 2200g? I want to avoid bottlenecking as much as possible.

bottlenecking isn't really that much of a thing anymore

I hope this being slightly over 500 is still ok. Down the road, you can upgrade the cpu to any ryzen 2000 or 3000 series chip, and add a hard drive in there for mass storage as there is only a 240gb ssd now.

Thing is that if you put in a 1600/2600 it is way over his budget.

Buying any card under a GTX 1660 is IMO not worth it as he will be upgrading it real quick.

No not really but its better to ask or read reviews of the specific model in order to know exactly what you‘re buying.

I have one more question. Does the motherboard matter? Can I just get away with a really cheap one? Like a B450m Ds3h, even for a ryzen 5 1600 and a gtx 1660.

If want cheap but reasonable board: Asrock B450M Pro4.

For CPU, you should consider the 1600, I'd wager, on the long run, it's more suitable than a quadcore.

For GPU, the 1660 is excellent choice, just stay away from asus Dual versions. A good 2fan version from GigaByte, MSI or Palit \Gainward will be sufficient. It's not very difficult to cool a 120tdp card, yet, asus managed to fck it up so bad, that dual 1660 cards can easily heat up to 80-84 degrees.

B450M Pro4

Ryzen 1600

GSkill Aegis RAM 2x8gb 3000Mhz

GTX 1660

a case with good airflow (so, not the Q300L...)

Tier A or similar PSU with 400-450watts. Refer to the PSU tier list

Shit, this would cost rather 600USD :(

yes you do pay ~$60 more right now. (1600)

However you may never get a good cpu upgrade for just $60

Do you need to build this PC today? Can it wait a couple of weeks? Are you in North America?

if you answered No, Yes and Yes, then I’d wait till July 7th. With the release of Ryzen 3000 and Navi, interesting things are bound to happen to the Ryzen 2000 series and lower tier Nvidia cards. You will likely get more for your money

AMD Ryzen 3950x under a Noctua D15S, 32 Gb G Skill FlareX 3200 DDR4 running at 3200 CL14, Gigabyte Aorus Pro 570 Wifi, Gigabyte 2070 Super hooked to a Dell U2718Q 4k HDR monitor & an Acer 1440p 144hz IPS panel of some kind, an Inland 1 TB M.2 PCIE 4 main drive, a Samsung NVME M.2 250Gb, WD Blue 500Gb  and 1 TB SSDs, Corsair RMX750, Rainbows and butterflies...

I would suggest swapping out that ssd for a hard drive, 250gb really isn't a lot of storage and you will run out fast. Could probably get a 7200rpm 1TB hard drive for the same price

I'm European, I don't think I'm intersted in the new CPUs, and the prices of old CPUs won't drop, becouse of the new CPUs. (At least for Europe)

@mikehunt_ please specify Europe. You can even show your local "partpicker" website if You have one (for us, it's árukereső, where we can browse all available components and compare prices of retailers.)

450w would be more than enough for 1660-1660ti. Even 400 is perfect, those turing gpus are very economical in power consumption..

If youd be able to pick a 1tb HDD (wd blue ezex, Toshiba p300 or seagate barracuda for example)  would be great. Though at least a 128GB ssd would be definitely a useful addition as your System drive. (crucial bx500, patriot burst, wd blue, kingston UV500 are good cheap units)

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )
